Running with the Index personally I can recommend it, since the resolution is pretty good, sound solution is fantastic and it has arguably the best controllers (even if they tend to break)
The index does not have a wireless option unfortunately but the cable is long enough to enable alternative cable management solutions.
I can not offer inside on the Vive pro 2 but it has the disadvantage of still using their old Vive wands (though you might be used to them).
The quest 2 binds you to facebook, which personally I can not recommend. It is a pretty solid piece of hardware for the pricepoint though.
Edit: Also, yes you will notice a vast improvement in Visual Clarity when using any of the above.
Quest 2 can be used wirelessly via Airlink or Streaming with Virtual Desktop.
I don't think Pimax supports wireless adapters at this point.
Yup the HTC wireless adapter works with the Vive Pro 1/2 as well, but if you do decide to go the wireless route with Vive Pro or Vive Pro 2, I'd recommend getting a Modmic wireless too. The microphone in both of the Vive Pro's is still just as bad as with the OG vive. Also, with the Vive Pro 2 the resolution and refresh rate are limited to 3264 x 1632 90Hz on the highest setting if you choose to have the wireless adapter on it.
Since you already have the OG vive set, the Vive Pro 1/2 and the Index will be compatible with the 1.0 basestations.
Index controllers would also be an upgrade over the vive wands, so you could get those separately with either of the vive Pro's headset or just get an index bundle.
IF you plan to do a lot of crazy stuff in VR though, I must warn you that the index controllers are nowhere near as durable as the vive wands.
I could add a lot more, like how little high refresh rate means if your focus will be VRchat, and how a VRcover mod is really recommended for the Vive pros, but I feel like I've said enough. I have no experience on the Pimax and Quest 2 so I won't speak on them, I prefer personal experience rather than watching reviews because reviews are hit or miss for me, sometimes I find them to be right and sometimes completely wrong in my experience, the pinnacle of that being the Pro 2.
Facebook, privacy and stuff don't realy matter to me. Just setup a new account and you are fine.
I can recommend you this setup if you want a cheap, comfy, leightweight, wireless vr headset. Can't say much about the other headsets because I don't own them. The Quest 2 is just way too good for it's price. You can't go wrong with it. I just can tell you that I always wanted an Index but since I got the Quest 2 I never looked back.
Hope it helps. :)
So problems with vive pro 2
Audio is crap, tried headphones, but it got really uncomfortable very fast with the heat and it felt claustrophobic. The other things are the lens which seem to give more glare than the index, the sweet spot is very small, focus area is around a 2 pence size which ruined the 5k display experience for me. It also wouldn’t shut down the base stations.
The only real good thing to say about the vive pro 2 was the display, which had no screen door effect that I could notice, it is also very roomy. I really did want to like this headset, but I couldn’t enjoy it.
The index ticked all the boxes, great sound. Great display( though would like more resolution ). The headset gets hot, but turned screen brightness down and now it is okay.
There is a lot to love and not a lot to hate with the index, the only bad point is possibly how close the lenses get to the face, and I don’t wear glasses, but it is adjustable. If I was to be really picky, then the resolution of the displays, because 5k display really is the ideal for that screen door free experience.
If /when valve release an index 2 headset, I will be first in line.
See you in vr.
