VRChat
Pimax 5K Super vs Valve Index vs HTC Vive Pro 2 vs Quest 2 (what say you)
So I'm going to get back into VR , used to enjoy playing VR Chat (socializing with all of you) at one point. The only VR Set I have at the moment is the ORIGINAL HTC Vive.

First off: Would I notice a massive difference if I were to buy ANY of the above mentioned newer VR sets as far as quality and seeing things clearly?

Secondly: What's the best bang for your buck?

Thirdly: What produces the best image on the average?

FYI: I did this mod with my HTC Vive which was supposed to make the image better by buying these lenses sold on eBay. I'm sure some of you who've owned the Vive OG knew of this mod. The problem was I ended up getting DUST particles inside and it was a pain in the butt since when turned on/in-game I noticed the specks.......

BTW: I really enjoyed Google Earth VR a lot by viewing my past residences in VR and of course traveling the word and seeing a first hand perspective of everything.

Let me know guys/gals what your opinion is ...Which is going to make VR Chat look crystal clear where I don't get STRAIN in my eyes. :D

Also less clutter...less wires which I hated about the VIVE.

Pimax is gonna be vast overkill and if you want to use it in VRChat you will require an additional sound solution since the built-in options (Mic + speaker) are pretty bad.

Running with the Index personally I can recommend it, since the resolution is pretty good, sound solution is fantastic and it has arguably the best controllers (even if they tend to break)
The index does not have a wireless option unfortunately but the cable is long enough to enable alternative cable management solutions.

I can not offer inside on the Vive pro 2 but it has the disadvantage of still using their old Vive wands (though you might be used to them).

The quest 2 binds you to facebook, which personally I can not recommend. It is a pretty solid piece of hardware for the pricepoint though.

Edit: Also, yes you will notice a vast improvement in Visual Clarity when using any of the above.

I just simply want to go with WIRELESS at this point. I think you can buy adapters for different sets that allow that.

The Vive Pro 1 had a wireless adapter, it probably works for the successor as well.
Quest 2 can be used wirelessly via Airlink or Streaming with Virtual Desktop.

I don't think Pimax supports wireless adapters at this point.

Yup the HTC wireless adapter works with the Vive Pro 1/2 as well, but if you do decide to go the wireless route with Vive Pro or Vive Pro 2, I'd recommend getting a Modmic wireless too. The microphone in both of the Vive Pro's is still just as bad as with the OG vive. Also, with the Vive Pro 2 the resolution and refresh rate are limited to 3264 x 1632 90Hz on the highest setting if you choose to have the wireless adapter on it.

Since you already have the OG vive set, the Vive Pro 1/2 and the Index will be compatible with the 1.0 basestations.

Index controllers would also be an upgrade over the vive wands, so you could get those separately with either of the vive Pro's headset or just get an index bundle.
IF you plan to do a lot of crazy stuff in VR though, I must warn you that the index controllers are nowhere near as durable as the vive wands.

I could add a lot more, like how little high refresh rate means if your focus will be VRchat, and how a VRcover mod is really recommended for the Vive pros, but I feel like I've said enough. I have no experience on the Pimax and Quest 2 so I won't speak on them, I prefer personal experience rather than watching reviews because reviews are hit or miss for me, sometimes I find them to be right and sometimes completely wrong in my experience, the pinnacle of that being the Pro 2.

I'm using a Quest 2 with the Deluxe Audio Strap from Vive and a Wifi 6 Router to play wirelessly over AirLink. The strap is very comfy and the sound is pretty good. Not on the same level as a good headset but still. The headset itself is pretty leightweight even with a powerbank attached to it. Can play 15h+ (120hz) with a 20.000mah Anker power bank and don't get a single disconnect or even lag while playing over Wi-Fi. Latency is so low it's like I'm playing wired. Router is an Asus RT-AX58U. Currently waiting for SlimeVR to bring out their fullbody trackers and will be using them. I also bought myself a modmic wireless. You could get one for a bit better mic quality if you set it up properly but it's not realy needed. Quest 2's mic is good enough. Display and clarity are perfercly fine for me if I crank all the settings up. I have read that it's resolution is even higher than the Index one but don't quote me on that.

Facebook, privacy and stuff don't realy matter to me. Just setup a new account and you are fine.

I can recommend you this setup if you want a cheap, comfy, leightweight, wireless vr headset. Can't say much about the other headsets because I don't own them. The Quest 2 is just way too good for it's price. You can't go wrong with it. I just can tell you that I always wanted an Index but since I got the Quest 2 I never looked back.

Hope it helps. :)

Hi. Just wanted to add to this. Just recently purchased a valve index, and also purchased a htc vive pro 2 headset for 5k. I thought going 5k would be an amazing experience, and although the vive pro 2 is a great display, some things really let the headset down so I sent it back, and kept the index which exceeded my expectations.

So problems with vive pro 2
Audio is crap, tried headphones, but it got really uncomfortable very fast with the heat and it felt claustrophobic. The other things are the lens which seem to give more glare than the index, the sweet spot is very small, focus area is around a 2 pence size which ruined the 5k display experience for me. It also wouldn’t shut down the base stations.

The only real good thing to say about the vive pro 2 was the display, which had no screen door effect that I could notice, it is also very roomy. I really did want to like this headset, but I couldn’t enjoy it.

The index ticked all the boxes, great sound. Great display( though would like more resolution ). The headset gets hot, but turned screen brightness down and now it is okay.

There is a lot to love and not a lot to hate with the index, the only bad point is possibly how close the lenses get to the face, and I don’t wear glasses, but it is adjustable. If I was to be really picky, then the resolution of the displays, because 5k display really is the ideal for that screen door free experience.

If /when valve release an index 2 headset, I will be first in line.

See you in vr.
