Is this good for long distance mates?
I had to move states and my friend and I are like brothers but obviously we don't get to hang out anymore besides play games.

Does it feel much better than typing or voicing when in VR with a friend? I feel it be kind of good since you get to see them moving but I'm not sure haha

I need some advice

Yes, VRChat is excellent for maintaining long distance relations to friends and loved ones.

It's like discord and any other social playform. But way more interactive like as if they're there.
There are plenty of things to do. From playing Murder and Beatsaber all the way to cards against humanity and uno.

Lots of worlds and creations to explore.

Here's a real story that can answer this..

I've played VRC before all the memes and big sh*t happened, but I didn't really "get it" so I dropped the game. Come back years later because there's a few games in VR I badly want to try out. Build the PC, get the VR gear. Go even deeper and get full body. I'm having insane amounts of fun. Hosting a drinking game, one girl of the many I've come across, for once she's "sober" enough to tolerate and deal with. Most when they come under my wings as a host are usually not, and once they play a game or two are very likely soon to be friends with the floor. Horn tooting aside... Flirting back and forth, teasing and enjoying the company. Happens with regularity and increased frequency, invites me to some drinking party night with her friends.

Keep in mind, this person is desktop only, does not have VR. Could likely never afford it either, I'm well enough off.. I'm genuinely this generous to the point it is a hard fault of mine. We become friends, and I offer to get her VR. Now she declines at first, then calls me on it. Took longer than I care to admit because back orders... But my word is made real. Through some difficulty and PC troubles and phone calls and UNGODLY BLURRY pics that korean p*rn actors would envy (she had a really bad phone... made it really hard to describe how to install PC parts) and no this isn't me making metaphors, this really happened. Her f*cking motherboard died and she is no tech guru like I am. This was a special hell for me. And I liked it. Because we got the PC up and working and the Full Body VR kit!

Next thing i know, we're dating. Watching movies, running around in worlds trying to find easter eggs, fighting in minecraft in VR.. There wasn't a dull moment between us. I never had that sense too of separation, at least until the mention of a bed came to play.. Be it sleep or otherwise. With a little help of a "MAXimum amount of LUSH too" we over came those feelings a bit further, though an empty bed still remained and frankly did leave us hurt for that specific connection. But through the activities we went about it was mitigated.

And now we live together, and are getting married.

Does that answer suffice?
