VRChat

Worth getting into?
I'm a huge SL player and I've had a VR headset for about a year now, but when I first tried VRChat through Quest 2 I just found it generally boring, though keep in mind I only tried it for 30m at best. I've been considering maaaybe trying it out on PC.

It seems like a fun thing to maybe get into, but how does custom avatars work? They seem like a huge trouble to set up. How is the community? Can it be enjoyed without a VR Headset too or is it only enjoyable through VR?

Will I be getting just more of the same as SL with more memers (which isn't what I'm interested in) or is it more of its own experience? SL has become increasingly plagued with sex content or people that are memeing 24/7 to the point it just feels like a digital dumpster nowadays instead of a community, so I've been looking for games that are more community driven like mid 2010's SL.

its honestly a mixed bag. i mean theres not much to say if everything you love or hate is there. theres screechers, mirror dweelers who stand infront of mirrors 24/7 and want no social interaction, memers who think loud= funny, crashers, never ending war between vr, quest, and PC players but theres also chill people, maps have improved in orginality, having fun, people getting more conformtable around pc players where maps that were only vr maps became pc and vr

TLDR: this is an experince that can make or break your day also do gamepad (controller) its more smoother and has an exclusive mechanic than pc.

Whether it's worth your time is very much up to what you're looking to get out of VRChat. I'm a creator and have been for about 4 years now. If you're looking for a creative outlet, VRChat is the best thing around imo.

I can't really speak about the other aspects since everyone I hang out with are also long term creators so I can't say I have a current understanding of the rest of the VRC experience right now.

I spent about two weeks in VR Chat and as far as the community question, it's fine, but if you're not into anime then you're going to feel like a social outcast everywhere you go. Obviously feeling that way was the exact opposite of why I tried it (I already feel that way everywhere else I go), so I decided to leave. So for me it wasn't even enjoyable WITH a VR setup.

I absolutely love creating, and I have decent experience with weight painting, modeling, rigging and texturing.
The problem is the game everytime I watch videos of it, just look like an inferior, VR version of TU and SL if the two had a child.

This is my biggest concern, I really don't like anime. I can enjoy the artwork and a well done anime series but I HATE the overall sexualization of it, and when playing in a VR I think sex would be the last thing on my mind, even as a furry.

I've made some good friends here and I been playing for just over 3 months now! I did make an instagram acc which helped me find a bunch of new friends but I definitely recommend it! Some super cool avatars and very talented creators in this community and it's a good reason to actually learn how to use blender and unity and get started on creating something not-even-that-horrible yourself :)

edit: I suck at creating avatars. I can do edits but I'm learning! It's a really fun process!

To SparsePrawn, having mirror dwellers ins't a review of the game. It's like saying "people be doing whatever they want not harming anyone". We have our groups of friends who's usually also at the mirror. Some are in Discord. Others are just chilling and at times under the influence just hanging out. Leave them alone.

To OP: Quest has engine limitations. No dynamic bones and limited animations (on avatars) and even in worlds with movie players and games. I am on PC and my closest VR friends are on Quest. We can't do everything together because some worlds / games just dont work or show up for them. Im in VR every evening lately. I've formed a close group of friends who are also on and we enjoy each others company. And yes, sometimes that's in front of a mirror just talking to each other and just hanging out. IRL, not everyone that goes to a bar or club wants randos just walking up ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at them. they just want to be in the presence of other humans.

VR chat is a lot like second life it just really depends on where you are that same goes for second life you can go to the maze world in second life and find basically the same amount of trolls that you find and let's say furhub. It really does depend on where you are and also get the link cable if you have a PC that can run VR chat you'll be able to see people who have really good avatars that they took time and effort in.

what? jeez thats what u got from my paragraph? at first i as joking but now its the truth, go to private worlds or home world and not be a wasted space who wants to look at a mirror while someone who actually wants to interact in the game cant join that world because the sever is full. Lets not forget the endless stories of people just saying hi to them and getting blocked without a second thought.

I like chatting with friends in front of a mirror. Its nice to be able to see myself in an avatar I spent a bunch of time on making it my own while I hang out
So worth it, hugging frens in game is so wholesome. q//q
