Did you just ask for a "cheap" vr headset and then provide a 1000-1500 pricerange?
That basically allows to get ANY of them
It's 279$ USD:

If you can get your hands on one the CV1 from Oculus is pretty good as well for gaming and social, quality of the display isnt bad, the headset itself tends to not be super sturdy however and the batteries are replaceable, which means buying batteries or getting recharge-able ones.
A Vive headset can be pretty good in combination with Vive trackers for full-body, all though the controllers themselves (even though they are charge-able) suck pretty hard for anything social, but you can use index controllers with a Vive setup. Disclaimer: Don't waste your money on a Vive pro not really worth it. Headset itself is pretty sturdy, I've slept countless of hours in VRchat with them and dropped it from about 1 meter (3 feet) couple of times and it survive just fine. Downside of it is the display and the fact that you need to get the deluxe audio strap separately but for 1000-1500$ that shouldn't be a problem for you.
Evade: any quest device or mixed reality headsets. And before people tell me they are good because you have a link cable. IT STILL SUCKS. The quality of the product does not suddenly become better when there is a link cable. It is still build as a stand alone device, so that is what its made for. If you are worried about the wires there is 2 solutions both equally simple.
1. Get a pulley system or something else for your wires feeding them across the ceiling through your room.
OR
2. Get a TP-link wireless thingy.
Good luck ^^
You also *need* to have a good gaming PC for any of the VR headsets to be usable.
There is a quest specific version of the game for playing on the quest 1/2 without a PC, but it's a very stripped version of the game and you miss a lot of content unless you hook it up to a PC.
