For 10 people replying you'll get 10 answers... it depends on how "cheap" and what you want to do with it... for VR sometimes "cheaper" isn't better from what I've found.

I will be monitoring this thread though... I'm still not sure myself being in the same situation, the only thing I know is not to buy one that makes you get a Facebook account... nothing but problems from what I've found.
if possible not beyond 1000-1500 dollar

Did you just ask for a "cheap" vr headset and then provide a 1000-1500 pricerange?
That basically allows to get ANY of them
I would advise looking into a product like Decagear. as well as base stations and vive trackers.
You can buy the Samsung HMD Odyssey+ and I have it and it works really good.
It's 279$ USD:

Buy the valve index, it's the best VR headset in the market right now in terms of support in case of hardware failure, comfort, resolution, intergration with Steam, controller features, and compatibality with older titles.

If you want, you can also upgrade with the Vive Trackers to allow 6 point tracker, and essentially track and put your entire body into VR, though the only 2 popular games that support this I know are VRchat and Blade and Sorcery.
It not available in my region do you have any other?
If I may put my input here, if you're just buying a VR headset for VRchat, then don't. If you are interested in more than just VRchat I would look towards an Index headset if you want quality and good social controls (recharge-able controllers, finger tracking etc.)

If you can get your hands on one the CV1 from Oculus is pretty good as well for gaming and social, quality of the display isnt bad, the headset itself tends to not be super sturdy however and the batteries are replaceable, which means buying batteries or getting recharge-able ones.

A Vive headset can be pretty good in combination with Vive trackers for full-body, all though the controllers themselves (even though they are charge-able) suck pretty hard for anything social, but you can use index controllers with a Vive setup. Disclaimer: Don't waste your money on a Vive pro not really worth it. Headset itself is pretty sturdy, I've slept countless of hours in VRchat with them and dropped it from about 1 meter (3 feet) couple of times and it survive just fine. Downside of it is the display and the fact that you need to get the deluxe audio strap separately but for 1000-1500$ that shouldn't be a problem for you.

Evade: any quest device or mixed reality headsets. And before people tell me they are good because you have a link cable. IT STILL SUCKS. The quality of the product does not suddenly become better when there is a link cable. It is still build as a stand alone device, so that is what its made for. If you are worried about the wires there is 2 solutions both equally simple.
1. Get a pulley system or something else for your wires feeding them across the ceiling through your room.
OR
2. Get a TP-link wireless thingy.

Good luck ^^
I'm playing on an Oculus Quest 3, the basic unit is 300 dollars. It's a stand alone. It's the one the first poster said not to get. I've had it since Monday and I haven't had any problems with it. Duno what the heck they are talking about. You do need to have a facebook account to use it. But chances are good that you already have one. It's a really nice headset too. No wires, and you can also hook it up to a PC to play PCVR games if your computer is up to snuff.
If your pricerange is 1000-1500, you can literally get any of them. All of them are good. I would reccomend against the quest, as it doesn't have PC avatars enabled as a general rule. The Valve Index works best for hardware, reliability, and a team to help with failiure, if it comes up.
best experience in my opinion (for now).......vive pro setup + HTC wireless adapter.....F Oculus because of the Facebook requirement.....
If you're just curious about VR I highly recommend a windows MR headset, you can get them cheap on ebay.
The Quest 2 is the only "Cheap" ($300) VR headset you can buy new. If you live in a smaller country, it's not going to be easy to find anything cheap. The only other options are buying used, and most headsets used will be $250+, you might find a Quest 1 for cheaper, but thats unreliable to find.

You also *need* to have a good gaming PC for any of the VR headsets to be usable.

There is a quest specific version of the game for playing on the quest 1/2 without a PC, but it's a very stripped version of the game and you miss a lot of content unless you hook it up to a PC.
