Users Using Avatars To Maliciously Crash Other Users

I was in the great pug minding my own business when I heard some users getting into it with one another and then all of a sudden i heard the person arguing say the guy was aiming something at him and ask if he was trying to crash him and after that it became totally silent that was not the only time I have came across avatars that have crashing capabilities my question is will there be a way to keep avatar makers from creating them and if so will there be an update and if not will there at least be some sort of update to protect ourselves from getting crashed all the time because frankly it is becoming a huge pain dealing with them

There isn't a very good way of preventing user's from making them, as it's very very difficult to tell when components are used to do something cool, vs something malicious. With that said, the safety settings are a feature built into the app to help you limit what parts of avatars can appear on your client that can be used for crashing. I recommend playing with some of the custom settings rather than keeping it on the default!

It's also against the terms of service to use avatars that disrupt or crash the application, and so if you have any screenshots or video of the situation, you can report the player at https://help.vrchat.com/new

I doubt the Devs care to be honest and it's mostly due to there servers being very crappy if you know what I mean.

Be careful while going in the great pug atm, for the past few weeks people have been using a "camera crash" exploit alongside a udon teleport exploit to crash the great pug, its why its player count has dropped by a huge amount as of late.

Gains have gone up and down, some days its fine but there has been a group of players crashing each instance of the great pug for the past few weeks, and I didn't say vrchat as a whole I meant that map.

i mean even with people making other crash to troll as Christmas comes and goes player numbers will bounce up decently as the quest 2 is so cheap

Yeah it just sucks that its happening especially near christmas, its becoming almost daily in udon based maps like the pug, not sure if its a selective group targeting it, or if its random people, I know a few of their names but its best not to list names. 🤫 They mostly just go in every active instance at the time, get anyone who can be yeeted and then go to the next when it starts being targeted.

Yea ive seen my fair share of them and had it happen to me a few times but i just loaded up into a diffrent world. It sucks but its not so bad that players will leave because of it

Thats the issue, its not the fact of leaving vrchat (I wouldnt leave for just being crashed) for it but its getting more common to the point that there are times where you can't load ANY map like the pug with these groups, I've been asking around as well now and then and alot of people are running into that issue as well where all the instances are being taken down and they can't go there at that moment due to it, these world crashers are getting really cocky as of late and don't want anyone to play in any map they can do it at all.

I've seen rows of instances of pugs crashed within 30 mins to a hour at times and other times when theres no groups targeting its peaceful, or as peaceful as a public pug is, lmao.

Well yea that is a fair point as well. I mean hopefully the devs can do something about it but it would be difficult for them to. I decided not to subscribe for now, if vrchat actually starts dumping more into stuff that needs it and the game becomes more stable/feels like I can trust it more to stand the test of time maybe, but at the current I don't want to do that alongside that whole censorship situation that was going down for a bit where anyone or anything said about it would be instantly deleted or even banned, but that's just my personal opinion, but this is offtopic a bit, so I'll stop here on that one.

The easiest way to fight crashers is to put hard limits to what can be uploaded. That'll stop the vast majority of crashers.

You cant crash with millions of spam if you cant upload said millions of spam. Itll force crashers to get smarter with their attacks and that'll make it easier to detect and deal with them as they'll become far more rare.
