VRChat
Solved Thank you Squid.
Title

I would love to know why my thread was locked by Squid.

Locking a thread that is asking about a geniune problem that is posted about quite a bit over at vr chat reddit as well as having an open letter to your community about said problem, doesnt seem to be the correct response.
As someone who is interested in signing up for a vr chat account and playing this game it seems extremely shortsided to close a thread asking about the current state of hackers and security of the program. Unless you like sending new players away, ones with geninue concerns and was looking for honest answers. I violated no rules and find that it is inapproriate to do so when trying to understand the current state of the program.

Also Squid; "If you suspect a user of using a modified client, please report that user via the email "moderation@vrchat.com". It is helpful to also provide your log located in "C:\Users\PC_NAME\AppData\LocalLow\VRChat\vrchat;output_log.txt". " Didnt even begin to answer the question I had about the state of security. In fact it is ignoring the problem I was asking about. Telling someone who is asking if this program is actually secure with a explanation on how to report people seems inappropriate.

Sorry, you're right, I should have posted my reasoning. There was spread of missinformation and I felt it was appropriate to answer the last question, leave a link to help people know how to report users with modified clients, and end the discusion. I felt if the convorsation went further in the original thread there could be more spread of misinformation about security. Please be assured however that modified clients cannot take anything away from your account. Security is something taken very seriously by the VRChat team (of which I am not a part of) and most of its security fixes and patches are not made public for obvious reason. So again, if you see a user you suspect of using a modified client, please report it to the official email "moderation@vrchat.com" and supplying your output log or a video of the incident helps greatly. Thanks and sorry for the confusion!

Probably because it could be spreading false information. The worst that people can do is crash your game, or maybe copy your avatar, but nothing actually harmful to your personal info or pc (coming from discord chats with some on the vrchat team). Anything else where people say you could get hacked or your pc wrecked are rumours that keep getting spread around (they've been circulating for months). So no, you don't need a vpn like you stated in your other post.

It was likely locked so as not to stop more people from playing the game if they see the post and get worried

the steam forums are really... kinda just left up to a few admins. most of the actual dev team just stick to the discord if they are willing to talk and only come here to post announcements and updates

I don't think you need VPN to play this game, also based on my experience, the only hacker that exist is only avatar stealer. They can dupes your avatar but you still can use it as usual, no missing bones, animation or stuff, they just make copy of yours, which is very disrespectful to whoever made that "stolen" avatar.

thank you for the clarification and also this answer. All of that is super helpful also didnt mean to come off as ♥♥♥♥♥♥. I got defensive and felt I was being shut down for asking about what I now know is missinformation.

The original post is about me calling out squid .I edited my message because I misunderstood squid as just another irresponsible admin, which is sadly, quite common in steam community forum. I removed it as I feel there is no need to insult a person who is only trying to do good.
