(Not trying to argue, people who make from scratch have full respect. Just posting before comments against users with custom mmd avatars could pop up)
There are a bunch that are just downloaded complete, and they just edit a few textures and maybe add a hat or something;
but then there's a completely custom model, but still made using premade mmd parts.
This requires
finding a base (just skin, no clothes, head or hair)
Adding components (hair, head, clothes)
Modeling them to fit the base (some modeling skill required to reshape the individual vertices to fit)
Making custom textures.
So, some of those mmd models that look really good, can still have hours and hours of work put into them, and require at least some skill to make. Lol
mhm , youre not wrong . Tbh i think custom mmd´s deserve praise. ( can´t say that for re-textured ones maybe)
Most of the commisions here are (sorta) misleading me, just . . . mmds oof
( ah yea forgot pardon my english rip
The majority of persons on VRChat who "make" avatars are really for the most part altering and/or mix & matching existing components. There is often very little custom/from scratch modeling for actual base avatars and such or fresh from scratch sculpting.
That being said, one should also consider that while one is perhaps not entirely making something from scratch, the work involved in stitching together components and such into stand alone variants/avatars is still significant.
The real question comes down to where one can truly claim the product as their own made from scratch.
i.e. Does someone who builds a car from various salvaged components (i.e. start with a frame from say a Ford, use a Chevy Engine, throw parts from Toyota & Honda, ect.) still have as much claim that they made their own car as someone who built their vehicle from scratch?" (starting from blocks of metal, plastic, ect. and machining, forming, welding, ect.)
Most of the shaders used are free, however originally had to be paid, but people leak crap. So 99% of the models you see in VRChat isn't even made by the people who claimed they make them.
However, there are people who are dedicated on making their models from scratch, and I respect them honestly with the effort the put into them. Unfortunately, they aren't used often because people just outright steal them.
That seems start to kill VRChat for me.
How do chimera modeler think it?
Care nothing? Cool.
It isn´t actually creating the parts themself but still a big job of editing the mesh, textures, rigging...
It is much more, than most people coming to VRChat are willing to do/learn...
Yet those edited people wanna complain that someone stole there avatar when it happens, when the models are not original at all
erm if they stiched them together then yes that model is original the work they put in to change meshes and make the avatar look good yes is a lot of work.
if your then trying to justify stealing avatars your an idiot.
why build a model from scratch when you can take an existing part and edit it to be exactly what u want? like oh look heres an arm i did from scratch myself oh wait it looks identical to this one on another model so why did i spend 20+ hours modeling this from scratch when i could take that arm and then spend time mesh editing the connection to the body.
not many do avatars from scratch cause there really is no point and if you expect a commission to be done from scratch then expect to pay proffessional prices that a game developer would get paid so were talking $100's if not $1000's for a full model from scratch as it really is that much work.
also 99% of models from MMDS act like absolute trash in VRchat if you dont spend time on them and the good model makers i know do spend time.
(( yea, takes existing parts and makes an *original character*
i´m learning how to make one in blender, and in the middle of learning how too use unity as well
but they did make that. and its clear youve never touched that but sure keep being ignorant of the work people put in
I for example took a xenoblade chronichles 2 character, that wasnt mmd to begin with, swapped out the face, which also required me to fiddle around with the UVMaps on that specific model.
I also cutted out specific Areas around the whole Body so that i can separate it and later put a glowing shader on that.
Most People think "oh it just came that way", but no, all those little things others dont even realize you have to do, to even make some models vrchat ready, probably never took a second look on how to do those things.
Only People who know how to do all that can appreciate the work behind it.
