i have a vrchat account and steam account i downloaded vrchat on steam i wanted to get models for the game so i created a vrchat account i i logged into my vrchat account in the game (but not steam) and left my game running overnight so i could download avatars when i woke up i went to my computor closed vrchat saw i had 6 more hours on it (total 14 hours) i then went to vrchat.com logged in and it said I needed to link my steam account I then went to steam like it told me to and I couldn't find the merge token code. but what I don't understand is that I was on my vrchat account the whole time not my steam account which makes me think it was an error

You don't need to merge the steam account. That is more just if you started playing for a while on a steam account and then wanted to move to a vrchat account within losing your friends and playtime.

Just a note, for ranks and unlocking the ability to upload models, afk does not count. The game doesn't work based simply on playtime. It tracks your interactions, your friends, if you get kicked, how many and how long you are in worlds. Being afk overnight will not increase your trust rank for uploading avatars

To link your vrchat friends you met on your steam account? Log into your steam vrchat account and go to the settings menu. There is an upgrade button.

If you mean link your steam account to link your "steam friends" (as in your steam friends list) that is not currently possible

I was stuck on this recently too, until 1 on the discord group helped me. You need to go into VRChat (launch the game) then go into settings. Once you do that, click on Upgrade Account and you'll see an option to generate a code to merge your account :)
