Is VRChat mostly for perverts and crazy people? Or is there other stuff to do?

Recently a friend asked me to adapt a classic half-life character to VRChat. So far so good.

I think, VRChat - make your own characters. Pretty cool.

I do some research on Youtube and steam reviews. I find out its basically a highly digitized psych-ward for people with strange delusions and fetishes, with a very unhealthy balance of adult wierdos and child wierdos.

Did I get the right impression here? I'd love to create avatars for this thing, but seriously ... I'm a serious guy (pay no attention to pixel-pug avatar) and I just want to know if I can develop characters that have greater objectives than simply looking up anime-girl skirts.

Like...you know...semi-serious people? You get the drift. Cuz if its just a bunch of lonely old japanese guys I got other things to do.

VRchat is free entertinment with drama, action horror,comedy,rolo play and other stuff
its never the same , its up to you to find whats good and have fun , the other stuff you dont like you can block or just not visit those rooms.

It was guaranteed to go down this route eventually. If you have a game that's akin to second life it's bound to attract odd people and go down the drain. The calm nature of it was never going to last.

The majority of people play this game for fun social interaction that you can otherwise just block if they're not serious enough for you.
There are the people from popular Twitch streams flooding in who only exist to troll, but again it's simple enough to just block them.

I've not seen anything perverted in this game, moderation is quite strict. I'm assuming you're just generalizing people who use anime themed models what with your racist comment about "lonely Japanese guys".
