VRChat
Tips for Having Serious Discussions?
I have a hard time believing there's no-one on VRChat who doesn't like talking about serious topics, but I either have not met these people or I'm not saying the right things. Generally people are more interested in avatars than talking, which I get is most of the purpose of VRChat when you've been involved with it for a long time. Still, I wish more people would -talk- more.

What are some methods you personally use to get people out of their comfort zone and get them to really open up and talk to you?

I guess it's just luck if you meet someone to have a serious conversation with. I just met a guy yesterday, half my age (I'm in my early 30s) and we talked for about 4h about politics, economics and ethics. we had some different opinions about lots of things, but we had a really a nice talk. Even the language barrier (i'm from germany and sometimes my vocabulary isn't enough to describe everything i want to express... he's from the u.s) was no problem because we met each other with respect and were interested in what the opposite had to say.

You'll just have to push through silliness at first, and make friends through that experience. Over time, you'll end up with friends who invite you to private/friends worlds, and sometimes you have an opportunity to have a serious discussion. You'll have to get a read of the room, first. Sometimes nobody wants a wet blanket.

Real world BS like politics, religion, abortion, immigration, the economy, etc. Needs to stay in the real world, people come to VRChat to escape that they don't want to be reminded of crap they're trying to get away from.

It's better to have those types of discussions on forums that are specialized for those types of things.

I can relate with this pretty hard. Don't get me wrong, I like to fool and joke around on VRC like anyone else does, but I also like to just chill and talk about anything and everything from time to time.

I know this ain't the 'find-a-friend' thread, but if you wanna hang with someone who doesn't always run around in meme avatars screaming, HMU. SapphireSouls on VRC.

You get people to talk to you by being comfortable to be around.
When you become part of their comfort zone, you're more likely to be able to have an in-depth conversation with them.
Trying to pull them out of their comfort zone will only achieve the opposite.

Tips: Dont have autistic usernames as your kind typically baits like this in one breath and in the next give SCREECHING TARD SOUNDS to where id stab you if you pulled that irl and if you pulled that ♥♥♥♥ i couldnt kick you fast enough from the room.

The Pug. The Roost, about 17:00 - 02:00 you'll usually find people going on about politics, religion, philosophy, etc. It's not always a given, and the moment any Aussie comes in the whole discussion is thrown out the window. Any moment some drunk girl for some reason decides she needs attention decides to go up there, the discussion is over because she'll start crying, talking over people, giggling like a spazz, demean or insult outright, pass out, or attract the attention of other people and soon enough everyone is up there.

It's a hit and miss... Those are the hours I've found to be the best though. Days? Monday - Thursday.

Probably half of the people on my friends list I met in The Roost in the Pug and legit spoke to them in my Halo Gravemind voice about politics or philosophy. And we were up there for HOURS.
