Discussion about Dance Clubs

I just got the Vive and have had a blast trying everything. I log onto VRChat every day and end up dancing for several hours. I guess its become a habit and I could use the exercise. Anyway, I was so amazed by how well room scale worked that I am getting full body tracking in a few days.

Point is, there are about 5 clubs in VRChat. Of those, one is too dark and one constantly has its music changed by griefers. The other three are often completely empty or private.

Sometimes I can find a populated club but the majority of people there are desktop users, griefing, and just standing blankly on the dance floor. This wouldn't be a problem if they actually came to watch people dance and make comments

So the majority of people I encounter are either not dancing or encouraging dancing. Who mostly have desktop mode on. The rest that have VR are lolis that stand in one place and move their hands around like they are playing paddycake. I have yet to find anyone dancing in VR with roomscale and really getting into it.

All of this is fine but I am just wondering if anyone else has encountered or cares abou tthis. Dancing is something that I didn't expect VRChat would be great at. Occasionally I have encounterd other people with VR and have got into sort of a dancing partner situation but like I said earlier its usually loli avatars with terrible range of motion who stand in one place.

If anyone is really into that portion of VRChat you can feel free to add me. I think dancing in VR really shows its strengths. And for the record I am not complaining here so much as I wonder if anyone else is kinda discouraged by the atmosphere here for people who actually are into dancing.

Generalising here on stereotypes, but the majority of users in VRChat are likely males, and I don't believe dancing is particularly popular to the typical male user, especially the video gamer. Did dance games sell that well for the Kinect/Wii that weren't marketted for females or fitness? Dance dance revolution comes to mind as well, but I wouldn't say its fanbase is huge (respected in small communities maybe).

I think expecting any better is wishful thinking, even if a lot of male players on this game like to play as female characters. I'm seeing a lot of people mentioning full body tracking on the forums recently, so you might be better organising your own rooms and adding people that have these full body trackers and some VR friends that have motion controls to organise your own sessions.

This game has somewhat exploded in popularity over media sites like youtube recently, so there is a huge influx of people who are downloading it since it's free, with the vast majority of players not owning a VR headset, so it's to be expected that the playerbase is somewhat rowdy.

Two options. Buy an old Kinect and twenty dollars for software or spend 300 bucks on 3 Vive Trackers.

As for the guy above, I have DDR metal dance pads. That scene is probably mostly guys. Also goth clubs and karaoke venues are often half male and half female. So gender isn’t really an issue.

Everyone likes to dance. The main thing holding it back in VRChat is the technology is too expensive and new.

I’ve found one video or two of Full Body Tracking dancers. It’s amazing.

I’m hoping I can make a name for myself as a dancer in vrchat and maybe we can organize a troupe for performances. Would be neat.

Still a pretty niche audience but I've made friends with a dozen or so people who take it seriously. I find that we are all usually in the same room(s) which definitely helps (typically The Void).

I've also been lucky enough to meet and chat with several creators of new clubs which are fun but still lacking real support from the playerbase.

I definitely agree about desktop users and trolls being a major issue.

I broke my 3 in 1 cable dancing. So thats how much I was getting into it. I wish that they didnt tangle. Anyway, ironically when it broke I had stumbled upon a group of people in Void who mostly all had full body tracking or regular VR. It actually felt like a club (not necessarily in a good way though).

Having full body tracking I get used to being seen as an oddity and the center of attention so being in a large crowd of others with full body tracking is a weird feeling. I mostly like dancing with someone, not necessarily dancing near someone. Some people asked me and a guy to do a slow dance before and its really hard to syncronize with music and with each other when there is obvious latency.

I think that we should create a discord or something dedicated to dancing. Some group somewhere.

We definitely should get a discord going. I've only been hitting up the void club for like 3 days and I'm surprised there's nothing organized yet. It would be way easier to get people into those new clubs if we could coordinate better. Y'all might have seen me as a glowing skull kid from Majora's mask if you were on this weekend.

Looks dope. I also made a very basic warehouse party environment. I do like the void, but I feel like I've heard all the songs so many times now that I need something different to keep things fresh.

I want a club that plays old 50s and earlier music. Have avatars in suits and ties and old school dresses. I noticed I really like dancing to stuff that isn’t electronic. It’s less mechanical.

@op Dancing in this game is a lot of fun and I spent my first several days in VRChat doing a lot of dancing too. I get what you mean though, even with people on the dance floor, often, they aren't dancing, or maybe just watching in desktop mode. So... just gotta get that party started. It is in a lot of ways a nice club like experience without having to leave the house :)

I suggest the Imperial as a venue. Club Mechanix (sp ?) is also very nice. They're often not as busy as the Void or MMD club, but I like the design and music selection.

A regular dance night/event would be pretty great and I bet people would attend.

A dance night event would be awesome especially if we got like a different dj set to dance to for each week.

Right now, you could, theoretically load up a dj set as an animation override, or just audio/mic input, but I haven't yet seen a club where users can upload or play music yet. If there is a club where you can upload, that'd be fantastic, and I hope to one day see that as an option.

But yeah, dj sets weekly would be fantastic.

I dance a lot, myself. Sounds like we get a similar amount of virtual groovin' in, though because of work for me its every couple of days rather than daily. I'm eager to get some trackers for my feet so I can start break dancing in VR too :) I've experienced full dance clubs a few times, so maybe its just when you're logging in? I'll keep an eye out for you on the dance floor! I'm agentm83.
