Hard Drive filling up? Here's what you need to do to fix it.
Hi everyone!

As VRChat is still in early access, there are a few things that some can be caught off-guard by. While exploring many worlds in VRChat is great fun, it can be not so much fun for your hard drive. You might find it filling up and wondering where you need to go to delete stuff. That's where clean cache comes in!

If you type !cleancache on the Discord #bottalk channel, you will be directed to the VRChat folder within C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\LocalLow\VRChat.

All you need to do is delete this folder from time to time to clear up hard drive space. Depending on how heavy a user you are you might want to do this up to once a week. Don't worry, we'll have better solutions for this coming soon!

So many machines nowadays are configured with tiny SSD system drives. You really need to offer the user a way to move this directory off the system partition (and Microsoft needs to make this easier to change system wide)

The way I got around this is to use a simlink (Symbolic Link) to a folder I made on my physical 1tb hard drive (D:).

OK. I was hoping to avoid watching the video. I'll watch it later when I have audio and write a quick summary to help others who also hate video.

Just about how much drive space are we talking about here? It's sort of been a thing I need to watch, lately.

I know nothing about this, and now am very interested in knowing. How does one go about setting this up? What software do you use? Is it terribly difficult? What limitations does it have? Please and thank you for your time and answers.

I'm just talking about the way new systems tend to be configured. Almost any build with an SSD will have Windows on that with a bigger conventional drive alongside.

If it was your own builds - it's just a case of deciding which drive to install the OS on.

I built my first gaming pc I ever owned last Summer with money I got from caching in my Vacation pay, and building it with vr in mind. I have a Samsung 500gb ssd with several much larger HDD's as well. Problem is my SSD is out of space. I had I do have quite a bit installed on the SSD, and I store what I can on the larger drives, but if something needs to install on my main drive, and I am out of space, something like a install on a larger driver with a virtual install on the main would be a wonderful thing.

I still have so much to learn though.

For those still having problems creating a symbolic link do this: Run (Win + R) %appdata% then by the directory at the top goto AppData from roaming then goto LocalLow. Cut the "VRChat" folder and paste it to your new folder that you want it at for example G:/Games/VRChat
Run Command Prompt as Admin. (Search "cmd" in the start menu and right click Run as admin)

type in cmd:
mklink /d C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\VRChat G:\Games\VRChat
*NOTE: Replace "YOURUSERNAME" with your username (self explanitory but some ppl still have issues with this)
*NOTE: C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\VRChat has to be moved FIRST before doing the command otherwise a message saying "Cannot create a file when that file already exists." will appear.
