I think after a couple hours the opponent changes but I have yet to confirm it 100% so don't take my word on this last part.
The game will put opponent's pets against you based on your hall of fame rank and honor. The players character level has no effect on the outcome of pet fights. For example, if you are rank 100 in the, "Pet Hall of Fame", the game will match you against a player that is between rank 80ish up to 120ish in the, "Pet Hall of Fame". Keep in mind that there are 4 tabs at the top of the, "Hall of Fame" page. The tabs are as follow: Heroes, Guilds, Fortresses, Pets. Jaybeebrad, click the, "Hall of Fame" button on the left hand side, next click the, "Pets" tab at the top of the page. Lastly, look at your Pet rank in the, "Pets Hall of Fame". Once you discover your pet rank, you can add 20 and subtract 20 ranks to get a range of potential canidates you may face.
Just lose that fight. You'll also lose rank, increasing the odds of the next opponent being a more balanced match up. After all the point of those battles is to get fruit so loosing 1 or 2 a day shouldn't be an issue.
I do agree it's a bad system but it's not that big of a deal.
Some players may be rewarded many fruits each day from tavern quests and winning the pet duels, while others do not luck out with a pet food as a tavern reward. Knowing this, I set a standard for myself, I try to win 2 or 3 out of the 5 pet fights. There are minor things you can look out for to slightly to moderately increase your odds. For example, our character class. On average, a warrior will defeat mages in a duel. Mages will defeat scouts on average. You guessed it, the scout will defeat the warrior on average. You can apply this mechanic to the pets to a lesser extent. Each pet has a class.
Also, certain elements will do bonus damage to others. The water element does extra damage to the fire element. So if you are worried you might lose and want to increase your odds a little, use your water pet against fire and so forth. Unfortunately, because the pet feature is new to Shakes & Fidget, I do not know the exact math behind the mechanics for which element is good or bad against another. Water versus fire sounded pretty obvious though.
Another factor, each pet can consume 3 food a day which equals 3 lets for the respective pet. I prefer to give pet food to the SAME pet so that 1 pet will get high level faster. Others may disagree and spread their pet food amongst the group.
Another balancing mechanic is, as you lose pet fights, you will go down in rank in the pet hall of fame therefore matching you against lower ranked, weaker pets.
I uploaded a pet location guide for many pets. Click the Shakes & Fidget banner below.
