Newbie's question: where to spend gold?
New player here. Currently lvl 42. I'm sitting on some 3k+ gold coins and I don't know if I should spend them on my character (I'm a mage, so Int costs me around 75 coins and Con around 100+), or should I upgrade my fort. The problem is that I don't get a lot of coins on a daily basis to upgrade all the buildings as fast as I'd like.

If spending the coins on the fort is the best option, which of the buildings should I go for first? My fortress is lvl 7 (like my Academy), my Mine is 5 (like my woodcutter's hut), my Labourer's Quarters is 6, and the rest at either 2 or 3.

Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated :)

There are different strategies. Early in the game, you do not have much gold so I'd concentrate on your character (intelligence and constitution attributes). Don't buy new gear that often as you level up quickly and new items become outdated fast.

The gem mine is important as it gives you gems...but mining them is not cheap.

Who wants to share his/her strategy? :)

level up intelligence. It's more important than constitution for the mage.

Thanks everyone! So character over fort for now. Got it! At what point do you think it's best to start upgrading my fort? And when the time comes, should I go for the academy and the gem mine first or another building?

Some tips from the Discord community:

"For starters, he should go 50/50 with the Int/Con basis."

"He should focus on Fortress & Laborer's Quarters. Quarry and Woodcutter can stay few levels behind"

"You should keep it [gem mine] at 1 until you produce enough gold / shortly before you can unlock tower"

Thank you!

One last question: Tower? You mean the witch's tower at the magic shop? Or a different building in the fortress section altogether?

The witch does not have a tower. She has only a cauldron in the magic shop. The tower can be found on the dungeon map.
