Gilbert(spoiler)
Anyone else felt that his sudden bout of heroics near the end of the Game was somewhat weird?

During FC he was a complete scumbag, probably the most evil character in the entire game next to Weissmann

In SC he became kind of a comic relief Villain but is still a pretty nasty Human Being

Then in 3rd, his first order of business is trying to murder the Capuas, (again pretty awful)

Now, during the 3rd he kinda gets sick of his crappy life(he doesn't reflect on his actions mind you) until the segment with the Arseille when he decided he wants to be a Hero

It just feels so sudden and out of character to me, there are other Characters who get their redemption(like Duke Dunan) but it usually happens gradually and after a talk with a certain character

If he succeeded, would we have gotten Kurt instead?

He would have been the biggest hero of all.

He doesn't want to be a hero, he just wants to show off. (still the best character tho)

I diidn't see it as him trying to be the hero, I saw it as him trying to be a show off and trying to one up everyone else. Which is very in-character for Glbert.

He never really wants to be capital-E Evil; he just wants people to know of him, and the fastest way to do that, as it turns out, is to break things...except he's not really strong enough to break anything. That particular scene merely gave him a chance to become notable in a positive manner.

The only thing anyone will remember of Gilbert is "BLORF".

Gilbert is the most powerful character in the Trails universe. He only pretended to be weak to spare the other characters' low self esteem.

Actually that makes kinda sense Sandvich of Peace since Gilbert survived most of his time in phantasma all on his own. Could have been luck like is suggested in the games but.....who knows? :D

Ok, i be honest i was a bit disappointed that Gilbert wasn't a playable character, i would have totally taken him to the final battle

He would make the game too easy though with a strength stat of 9999999999.

I am disappointed you all seem to underestimate Gilbert's greatness. Gilbert shaking his head at the normies be like: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ltneBqv4_b4

To answer your question, we would've gotten one of Agate's cadets.
