I also have this issue, though it only happens about 15% of the time when I close the game.
Yes, this is also happening to me. I tried starting a thread about it - two actually, one here and one on the general Steam forums - but last I checked, had no replies to either one.

The usual advice for similar situations that I've found (for Windows users like myself) is to bring up the task manager and End Task on the offending game. However, there's no task for it in the task manager to do that with. Based on this, my guess is this is a problem with Steam, not DoS2. And in any case, the End Task suggestion, even if it worked, wouldn't actually *fix* the problem - it shouldn't stay running in Steam in the first place.

This is now happening every time I quit the game BUT I think I know the culprit. its the launcher. For some reason, no DOS2 activity was showing up in my task manager but now when I have the forever Running issue, I notice DOS2 Launcher in Task Manager. I kill it, and Steam goes from having the game RUNNING to SYNCING and then its done.

philosoraptorgames; can you see if this is the same case for you?
Yes, it seems to be supporttool.exe which sometimes (it seems to change depending on the situation) says in its description that it's the DOS2 launcher.

So now we know the culprit, but is there a permanent solution availble?
Isnt it because savefile is loading to cloud ? I have problem with that as well, but it shuts down anyway after about 2 minutes

I turned off the steam cloud for this game, and that seemed to stop the issue for me.

It's been known to stay running for hours on end (e.g. overnight) for me. I'll try disabling cloud saves and see if it helps - I have no reason to want them anyway, at least with this game.

Adding a comment because I have found the culprit and just in case anyone else searches for this issue.

It appears that the issue is coming from the "DriverVersionChecker" in the /bin folder of the game. For some reason it does not want to shut down after you exit the game, and is keeping the status in Steam as "running".

Using task Manager, if you got to the details tab, you can end the "DriverVersionChecker" process and then steam will show that the game has stopped running.

EDIT:
Someone found a more permanent solution to the problem. Risdyne in another thread mentioned disabling the version checker in the launcher settings in this thread: https://steamcommunity.com/app/435150/discussions/0/29560405880193

You have to manually kill the DriverVersionChecker one more time after doing this, but after that it shouldn't happen again.

So my solution requires some manual effort every time. Was on another thread and someone found a more permanent solution to the problem.
