Imense lag for the one joining multiplayer
I am hosting when playing with my friend, but he gets a lot of lag and it makes it unplayable. Loading times are also upwards of 10 min, no joke. It was like this when we started to play last week, but it got better on monday, before it got a lot worse so we thought it might be because of the server overload. Still im not seeing anyone else really complaining about this. Single player works fine, as well as hosting for both players.

What’s your upload speed?

100 Mbit up/down so shouldnt be the problem. As I said it worked fine on monday, and I know there were server problems the weekend before, but that could be a coincidence. I guess since it seems like no one else have this problem i should try another game save or something.

I’ve had loads of issues with my friend joining. It actually timed out after 15 minutes. But I found it was using all my upload and stopping any return communication but my uploads a fraction of yours. Fixed it by limiting the games upload. Not sure what else to suggest. Start without steam and do direct connection?

Update: Seems like it works for new games (for both hosting) but not for the old game save. However when we connected to the same router, it worked for the old game save. We can also connect fast to random players. Incoming connections seem to might be the problem? we are using the same ISP (from university). kinda weird when it worked on monday though.

This sounds very similar to us symptom wise, new games started fine, could load a game from the ship but from fort joy it would start maybe once in 50 but we could join anyone elses games fine.

Tested without the router and ethernet directly which seemed to have worked. Anyone have a guess as to what router settings can have caused it?

Flood detaction maybe?

It seems like it has something to do with the ISP. I found out that sites like whatsmyip.org shows the wrong IP-address and when using direct connect with the "real" external IP adress for my router it works as it should. Im not sure where the "fake" IP address comes from, as it doesn't show up in any traceroute calls i have done. As I only have an ethernet outlet from which i connect my router I am not sure exactly how many links i go through, or if that could have anything to do with it. My roommate have the same IP on whatsmyip.org as me, but not in his router settings / ipconfig. I'm happy to have found a solution, but if anyone have any clue about what is going on it would be interesting to know more about it.

I'd be curious for more digging on this.
Me and my friend just spent 45mins trying to load a game without success.

I'm the one hosting. I load the save, give him the Direct Connect code and he gets stuck either at 80% or at the final 'flower' endlessly.

If I then try a quick save it loops forever.
If I try to load another save I then get stuck at 80% as well. Once he quits the game my load finishes almost right away.

Konuvis, we had limited success both starting a new MP game THEN loading the save once we were both in.

Yeah, me and my wife have been playing fine for the past 4 days and then last night for some reason it's unplayable / kicks her from the server.

I was able to fix it by switching to my other network that has a faster download speed so that could be your issue as well. 100 Mbps might be too slow.
The Enclave Sep 30, 2017 @ 2:22am
100Mbps isnt too slow, i'm on 30Mbps down 2Mbps up (yay rural) works fine but it will try to hog all of the upload (when they join) if i dont run a limiter
