question about the the devourer armor set quest (somethings not working) (spoilerish warning)

About quest for devourer
so in the nameless isle, when i put in a flame rune, the first time it gave text that said my arm was bitten very hard(the rune had been moved to the floor), cripples me, and 3 or 4 undead lizards spawned, but no armor appeared. Am i doing something wrong? now when i put a flame rune in it just cripples me and nothing else. I looked at the wiki and it just said to put in the rune from the lizard attempting to complete the devourer's trial, and so i went back to a previous save and tried that.... nothing new happened. Also, idk if this is relevant, but the rune the lizard had on her was a small flame rune. Also, i am using mods, but none of them have affected me getting the first 3 pieces of armor nor any other armor set.

So basically i would really appreciate some advice on this

(i also tried doing the devourer quest first thing when i got on the island, mid way through, and right before all the well of ascension shenanigans)
(also, i don't remember what the quest is actually called, but those who have an answer to this probably know what i'm talking about)
