Easy way to free Gwydian w/o going through the hassle
For those of you searching for a really cheese way to help Gwydian escape and are ok with missing out on exp and loot, my party and I found a glitch when I was fooling around.

As far as I know, this only works with those parties that have a summoning capability such as incarnate or bone widow. Also you need a TP Pyramid pair.

While stealthed and out of sight of any NPCs, send your lil mans in to whack the Magister Knight, while you have another party member waiting away from any other NPSs. After you start combat with your incarnate/summonling of your choice, immediately TP out to your pal, and there you have it.

Gwydian runs to his family, and they walk away. Your On The Ropes quest updates to say that Gwydian has escaped. You don't have to fight the Voidlings, nor do you have to kill the magisters. Unfortunately you do not receive the EXP for the battle and freeing Gwydian. I don't know if it allows him to vouch for you with Hannag, and you don't get the sweet sweet quest completion loot from him.

But it's a thrifty way to continue the story w/o having to do something that seems to be hard to many others based off of search results (we ran the battle 3 times on an alternate campaign before we could win w/o Gwydian killing himself or ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the party too badly - we ended up using a strategy of blocking out the majority of voidlings from jumping to the platform by placing crates and pots on the corners).

Looking for a way to upload a short vid of the trick.

I'd still rather just tp him away before the fight. But props on the creativity.

I just root him in place now. As long as he can’t move, he can’t run in the fire. But then, I also run Air/Water mages that dominate the elementals and have enough terrain clear effects that the fire isn’t much of an issue. As long as you keep the fire elementals wet, they don’t spread fire as they move. Break the trails of oil so they don’t connect to where Gwydian is, and they won’t ignite up there to begin with. My last team actually did that fight without setting the place ablaze, at least not on the scaffolding.

I also can’t remember the last time I didn’t do the Blackpits at the very end of act two anyways. It’s off in a corner and there isn’t anything over there that makes me want anything to do with the place. But lately I’ve been doing act two in reverse with Paradise Downs and Bloodmoon being the first stops right after getting off the ship soo... that kinda tells you where I’m at.

Still, interesting take on cheesing it.

lol we by no means kept those saves; i have the utmost faith that this party can do this quest w/o having to cheese it. just thought it was interesting, since we'd been using the baby boy to initiate combat, and we were waiting for our tank to get in game. nice strat on the air/water mages. unfortunately, we're a diverse team of a hydro/tank, war/scoundrel, hunter, and a hydro/summon, so we don't quite have that to work around.
