The conversation checks are iffy - it APPEARS you need to vaguely read the theme of the person/animal you're talking to and their mood/personality, and respond accordingly. Skeleton man is a sauve mage that is squishy, a silver tongue, and gets bullied over by an intimidation check.
Either way, for conversational checks, high persuasion seems to the only way to suceed in most cases.
