I am pretty sure I just beat it open with my stength.

The reason Red Prince works for some people but not others is because it actually depends on having the [SCHOLAR] tag to understand the ancient lizard tongue, as well as being a lizard!

Any lizard/shapeshifted member of your party with the [SCHOLAR] tag should be able to talk to the salamander and the chest.
