[GUIDE] Easy Cheesy(?) Early Start
I’ve seen a lot of people having issues early on with the game due the lack of gear & skills, therefore I made this little guide on how I usually start my playthroughs, it allows me to squeeze a couple of extra levels before getting myself into some of those really annoying fights early on act 1 making everything much easier for me ~ hope it helps!

1 - Kill everyone in the boat.
2 - Steal the Death Fog Barrels from the boat.
3 - Kill the void woken on the beach.
4 - Throw a Death Fog Barrel next to Alexander and destroy it to kill everyone.
5 - Go back, kill the turtles and loot the water barrels.
6 - Throw the water barrels into the death fog and destroy them, use fire on the water to create steam that will remove the death fog.
7 - Complete: http://divinityoriginalsin2.wiki.fextralife.com/The+Shakedown

16 - Kill the toads inside the cave.

19 - Complete: http://divinityoriginalsin2.wiki.fextralife.com/The+Arena+of+Fort+Joy
20 – By now you should be close enough to level 5, time to get inside the fort and slay every nasty magister inside!

(1) In order to kill everyone quickly and easily on the lower deck of the boat, just attack the guards, make sure you are engaged in combat with every single one of them, then just run into the room with the witch and trigger the event where she slays everyone, granting you the experience for every single kill. (Note: This might be something you might don’t want to do unless doing a co-op Lone Wolf run, since this mean your companions will be already level 2 when you recruit them, giving them a random civil ability point on something that might end up being a waste at start)

(2) For this you’ll need to start with a fair amount of points in strength, just pick up Lone Wolf (even if you ain’t going for a LW run), throw 1 point in Polymorph (Make sure to pick up the chameleon stealth skill) and all your attribute points into Strength, just open the door, rush straight towards the first 2 barrels and loot them up, make sure your inventory is pretty much empty to avoid getting overweighed.

(4) Before murdering everyone with the death fog, use your chameleon cloaking skill to pass by the NPC’s without triggering the dialogue, get inside the fort, activate the fast travel statue and recruit every companion you want, you want to recruit them at the lowest level you can to be able to customize them as much as possible, once you got everyone, fast travel to the beach and walk back to the Fort Entrance, sneak as close as you can and drop 1 of the death fog barrels right next to Alexander and destroy it using a bow or ranged ability, make sure all your companions are far back so they don’t engage in combat since whoever engages will most likely end up dead.

(5) The death fog fight should grant you one level, that will be more than enough to allow you to kill the turtles with ease before entering the fort, you’ll also find 3 water barrels that you can use to clear up the death fog, just throw them into the middle of the death fog and brake them, use fire on the water to create steam that will end up by replacing the death fog allowing you safe passage. You might want to recruit the red prince for this, his racial ability should help ~

Extra Note: I highly recommend getting thievery with the created character and picking up the talent “All Skilled Up” at level 3, this way you can get thievery up to level 3 at level 3, that’s enough rob almost everything from every NPC inside the fort, make sure you only do it at level 4 though, since at that level NPCs will have extra skills to steal ~ If you are going for a 4-man group, make sure to focus on Lucky Charm with one of your companions, it can be really helpful, if you are on a duo-lone wolf run, I would rather stick to thievery & persuasion though.

Also! Don’t forget that Dallis will drops you her hammer (http://divinityoriginalsin2.wiki.fextralife.com/The+Reckoning), you can use it from the get go, you’ll have an accuracy penalty until level 5, but it’s still worth using since it will allow you to faceroll over most early fights!!!

May i have a different game version but neither alexander nor dallis got killed with the death barrel. Only the ghost guards and the 2 normal guards inside the gate.

Yeah, Alexander runs away with 1HP and Dallis gets stuck in her dragon form.
I meant, everyone expect the ones with the plot armor, sorry about that =P

How do you steal the death-fog barrels from the ship? Aren't they all destroyed by the tentacle-creature?

Not if you are fast enough.

No problem, there are also a couple of vids on youtube that show you how, some use telekenesis to grab all 3 barrels, other glitch the door to avoid triggering the tentacles that destroy the barrels, but that's pretty much the most straight forward option you have.
