Auto Save at Awful Times
So I encountered a witch, but had saved my game beforehand, just in case. Lo and behold, I got my ass handed to me, big time. Problem is, the game Auto-Saved OVER my save file, right when the fight starts. I'm literally getting killed in one hit, and can't flee or anything since nobody survives.

The last save before that was quite a ways back. I guess my question is: why would they auto-save you right into a fight, not knowing if you're outmatched yet? There's no way to go back or anything. Ugh, this is the first time I'm encountering this, so sorry if I'm ranting!

Any suggestions? Or am I screwed and have to start from where I last left off a few hours before?

? Save before you do any major fight.. or explore any weird looking places..
Or just save every 10 minutes.. It's not that hard to remember to save every 10 minutes.

This should never happen. Manual files dont get overwritten by autosave, unless you manually saved on a auto-save save files. But if an autosave did overwrite a manual save, contact Larian Support (support@larian.com).

Unless you've a backup of your pc and can restore older versions of your files, you'll have to start from the last save you've.
Or you try to load the newset file, and maybe the AI doesnt oneshot you (from time to time the AI reacts pretty stuipd)

I think you can turn off Auto Save in the game settings? You might want to consider this if you're having trouble with the auto-save function. I don't have a lot of time in the game yet, and I'm seriously considering this and saving at regular intervals and, of course, just before exploring/fighting/etc. because I've been getting some awkward restarts similar to the one you've described.
