Make the Larian Account optional
Spent multiple hours playing the game via the steam client and now I need to complete additional steps to play the game when I feel like having another go later ?

That's an unpleasant surprise.

I do not appreciate having someone decide for me when and how I can use the stuff I have paid for, more so if the condition is sneaked in years after purchase.

So, as the title states, make the Larian Account optional.

As in:
Don't need to use it in any way, shape or from to play an older game that did not previously require it.

Seems pointless to have made it mandatory to have an additional account to play the game years after release so I'm guessing it had something to do with the money focused business side of Larian studios.

You can just launch the game via the exe or via LaughingLeader's mod manager and it ignores the new launcher.

Found out about launching the game from the exe file shortly after posting but thanks for trying to help.

You can also just check the "don't ask again" box and skip past it. I use the current launcher, have no Larian account, and am never prompted to make an account after the first time.

Did not see the option to do that so the launcher may have changed / updated since you did that.

Been launching the executable directly to bypass the BS extra launcher so I'm not being completely denied access to the game I purchased.

Kinda sounds like you just want to be a victim here.

--skip-launcher put that in steam launch options.

Yeah, I didn't see an option in the launcher to skip it. I closed it out and added on the --skip-launcher in the steam launch options.

Really annoying when devs do this nonsense and don't give you an easy option to opt out. I don't need your stupid launchers for a game I've owned for years or a new one like BG3. It doesn't even have a mod controlling options from what I saw.

I am assuming doing this allows them to collect more data than Steam allows them to.

Could be other reasons though (sustaining version compatibility by having everyone on the same game version via auto-update (includes Gog-versions for example) for example).
I don't see why it would be necessary for the Steam version though.

It could also be for the reason that the developer wants to allow group play besides the Steam network. Imagine you have bought your game on Steam and another friend on gog.com.
It could be possible that Steam denies people who are not the owner of a Steam account to play with people who have not and maybe doesn't offer any compensation/agreement options to developers. Or maybe using your own network is just cheaper than Steam's.

Pure speculation though. My assumption is that the reason is data collection since you guys seemed to have no problems with interplay before. Is that correct?

Bruh same, I played it for a year then got a new PC. Now it is asking me to log into an account that I don't have to play a game I have already player without it. Online and everything. But I just started launching it from the DE launcher in the data files instead. Not sure why it started now and now the first time I installed it but yeah..

Just made a post (link below) for how to link the executable to the launch options (for simpletons like me) so people don't have to make a shortcut on your desktop or use the --skip-launcher option which will give you a program closure notification for the launcher every time you open the game.
