Levels 11 and 12 suck ass.
Everything before it? Pretty balanced. Everything after? Smooth. 11 and 12? Everything is too powerful or in to greater numbers to fight. Walk anywhere or do anything and like 7 level 14's will pop out and you'll be juuuuuust weak enough for them to reliably kill. 11 and 12 are hell.

With good builds those levels are pretty easy as well.

I'm using good builds. Magic archer (lone wolf) and Eternal warrior (also lone wolf).

Those aren't good builds, they're just builds. Fextralife is a source of thematic builds, but the actual quality of their builds ranges from decent to terrible. Pairing a magic-damage archer with a physical damage warrior is already suboptimal, and when you add in the fact that the "Eternal Warrior" trades off damage output for self-healing, the damage of your party is quite a bit lower than it could be at this stage in the game.

You're not wrong that there are a lot of wrong places to be at level 11, but if you defeat Mordus and then travel to Stonegarden for more quests, you should be okay. Exploration XP smooths it over quite a bit as well.

Yeah fextralife's builds are bad for the most part and the main goal is roleplaying. A shame that his site is one of the first things that show up when you look for guides but you'll get the hang of it eventually.

edit: just looked at the eternal warrior one and outside of the useless hydro spells it's not that bad. Just a normal warrior build if anything. And magic archer has a lot of unnecessary stuff as well and doesn't seem to work that well with a physical only damage ally.

You should add chameleon cloak uncanny evasion to every build, especially on lone wolf. It will help you avoid a lot of damage.

If I can take a level 9 party through Bloodmoon island, then you should be able to handle a +1 level difference. There’s no really distinct level 12 area, but between the entirety of Driftwood, the canyons and Mordus’ cave and the graveyard, there’s enough to get you prepared for the Blackpits. No reason to dip into level 14 areas until you’ve cleared the Blackpits and you should be level 13 by then at the minimum.

If the magic archer is the same as the one I build, using magic buffs to add magic damage, that build is more ideal for pairing with mages rather than a physical build. It isn’t really a standalone magic build much.

Definitely take the fextralife builds with a pinch of caution because, as mentioned, they’re usually built for flavor over function.

11 and 12 are not too bad for me on normal level. You've done bad builds most likely.

You probably just went in the wrong direction. Try checking this out: https://divinityoriginalsin2.vidyawiki.com/Areas+By+Level

I've started to hear this more and more. I'm happy that I've only just started playing the game. Thank you for saving me some time!

What's your go-to source for builds if you have one?

If by source builds you mean spamming source spells, that’s literally all a necromage does. Very good though.

Geomancer has the hardest hitting spell in the game though.

If you’re looking to make good use of source, you’ll want mages. Weapon based source spells are a tad lackluster.

I'm sorry I meant your go to resource for builds, such as a youtube channel, forum or website :)

I ask because you pointed out that fextralife's builds are bad and wonder where I can find some to get better at the game.
Chaoslink Mar 17, 2021 @ 7:42am
Most people look for Sin Tee I think. YouTube I believe.

Otherwise I’m a resource you can use if you like. More than happy to walk you through any type of build you want to use and adapt it to the other build(s) in your team for the best effectiveness or whatever effectiveness you should want otherwise.
Senki Mar 17, 2021 @ 8:16am
Yeah Sin Tee has some good builds. The downside is that he doesn't have a site so you are stuck watching a pretty long video if you want to see all the reasoning and details.

Honestly it's probably better if you try to figure stuff out on your own and only look for builds if you start struggling a lot.

Thank you Senki and Chaoslink! That's great of you guys. I will report back on my experience. So far these crocodiles in Fort Joy are giving me a run for my money hehe
Thanks again for your advice :)
