Is fane technically a human skeleton?

Not a spoiler/lore discussion, just wondering since most guides I read up on with builds say the recommended character are human/human skeleton, which makes me wonder if fane is compatible with them.

To fix the answer without "spoilers" Fane isn't a human at all, he is an Undead something else. He isn't an undead human, dwarf, elf, or lizard. He is a different race.

short answer, without spoilers: yes and no - the game tags him as Human, he would be appalled at being called human, probably.

Lorewise he technically isn't human, gameplay wise he is. humans(and the other races) were made in the image of one of his people .
