Still not good enough though. I guess I'll have to dump the Vulture set pretty soon, so I'll need something. I'll miss The Permanent Far Sight on it, though it didn't do any good v The Kraken. Seems you have to be nearly next to it.
Just stand on the steps to the left side of the little building near the harbor and the Kraken can't reach you- smoke a lot helps a lot in that fight if you walk in unprepared and have bad position. The archer or mages are likely to do the vast majority of damage vs the tentacles anyway.
But yeah, uniques level up to 18 when you reach act 4 as long as they're in Corbin's inventory. Sell him your uniques that you want leveled and they should be 18 at the start of the act. You'll have to buy (or steal) them off him again, but for some items its very worth it.
I started miles from the steps, went on the steps, couldn't fire a bow from the steps. I'll work out a better strategy next time. I'm kind of keen to get through it this time.
Nice thing to know about them levelling up.
I got all excited getting Uniques off the Unarmed Elf, only to find they generally have a down side - big ones. Like blinded, atrophy, and a dagger that does magical.
You could spend a lifetime messing with gear and setup. My archer still has some Level 9 rings, cos they've just not got updated.
The dagger though, did have 25% Crit, so I put it on a mage, which let her wear a great shield, and I think it's a great compromise between Crit and armour.
She has the Atrophe gloves. As far as I know, it won't matter much as she won't be using weapons.
This seems a pretty good compromise, between Crit and protection. I'd like something similar for my other Mage:
