Need Pet Pal from the start?
I just got to act 2 and I'm just now getting enough talent points to get Pet Pal on one of my party members. Does this mean I missed out on quests in Fort Joy? I'm thinking of the Black Cat, Buddy, etc.

Nope.

The black cat becomes a summon if you manage to escape Fort Joy without him getting killed in a fight by the Barracks gates.

Yes you did miss quests. 2 that come off the top of my head are Buddys request to save emmie and the fireslug queen

Also you missed the cursed pigs quest in fort joy, in particular one of the pigs you bless becomes a trader and that requires pet pal to accomplish.

It's just some experience points ultimately is all, nothing to lose sleep over.

Not really sure I’d call them quests... you can do everything those “quests” offer without having the ability to talk to them. The dog in the cage can’t be persuaded without it though. You also don’t learn who that crab is without it. There’s flavor stuff here and there you miss, but nothing significant really.

Noob here.

Would you recommend I play my first play through with a Custom made character that has Pet Pal? Or is it better just to pick an origins character. I just started and want to slap the Red Prince. Just got off the ship and met him on the first island.

I usually like lots of dialog in my games.

Thanks!

origins can choose also.... it just they have added story even as companions they ask what you want them to be (can be anything).

If you like dialog all origins is better since they add story and therefore dialog. (Especially companions!)
