Recommended companion classes?
Hi!!

I would like to play with a cleric, but I have been told that in this Game defensive classes as Clerics are not a good option... So I have though about this classes.

What do you think?
What classes would you recommend me for this characters? Not figthers or knights, I don't like those classes.

Also, this characters interact between them a lot?

Lohse enchanter (main character)
Sebille shadowblade
Fane inquisitor
Red Prince battlemage

Thank you so much!!!

There are only three classes in DOS2 and they are "Warfare/X" (for different values of X), "Elemental Magic/X" and "Summoner". In your list, Lohse would be "Elemental Magic/Hydro+Aero", Sebille would be "Warfare/Scoundrel", Fane would be "Warfare/Necro" and Red Prince would be a mixed class that is unplayable. If you want to play a 2-2 split between Warfare and Magic, you'd want Red Prince to be some kind of elemental caster or a summoner.

If this is your 1st playthrough on Story mode/Classic mode, go ahead and enjoy the story, you cant go wrong no matter how you build your characters. However, you will need to specialize your characters if you are running in Tactician mode.

This game favors the attackers who go first and deal massive amount of damage on 1st turn. If you manage to kill them just before they have any chance to hurt you, then the battle will be won without any healing. Healing spells are only needed if there are negative status effects on your characters. But you can easily access healing spell scrolls by looting and crafting.

I will give you an example build:

If you want a knight (Two-handed, Strength), you should put:
- Maximum Combat points into Warfare,
- 1~2 pts into Scoundrel (for Adrenaline)
- 1~2 pts into Necromancer (for Living on the edge and Resist Death).
- 3 pts into Polymorth (for Skin Graft)
- Some points will be distributed for other skills that fit your strategy.
- The remaining pts should be put into Two-handed (to maximize damage output).

Choose equipment (Amours, Rings and Necklace) which provide Warfare (to surpass 10 pts limit).

Since this is a physical damage dealer, it would be inefficient to invest on Magical damage skills or Restoration skills.

So Knight with a little necro It is not a good option... Ok, then Knight discarded, I don't like pure "warrior" builds haha

I will look for other classes then

I’m not one for recommending mods, especially for first playthroughs, but you might want to look into Divinity Unleashed or something like that. It overhauls the game to change how the armor system works and if I’m right, makes the hybrid builds work better. I can’t say with any certainty as I never felt the armor system needed changing, but it might be your only option to play these hybrid builds and also have fun without cranking the difficulty down.

Ultimately, hybrid builds are just bad because you can’t scale well with effectively half the attribute points. You could also look into mods that increase attribute points per level as well so you can invest both without penalty. I’d go for no more than 4 points per level to keep balance and refrain from increasing skill points too much as they tend to scale better. It’ll be a little hard to gauge without experience with the game, but it’s your best bet if you want these builds to work as you’re thinking.

Yes, hybrids are weak enough that cheat mods to increase stats are the only way to make them strong enough to compete with other builds.

Ok, but about what I said of a Knight with 3 necro?

Yeah, that does work. You just have to look through the Necro spells for ones that do something you want other than damage. Your weapon is the damage. The spells just support you while you deal that damage. So again, you’d use Decay Touch for the status effect, not the damage. Mosquito Swarm is something you’d probably skip since it’s mostly about the damage. You’d have more skill points over time though, so once you have the Necro you need and max Warfare, you can pick up other stuff. Healing magic for damage against undead or decaying foes is a good pairing. High Geo for poison (to heal your undead if you have one) and physical armor restores would also be good.

To complicate things, if you craft together skillbooks of one of the four magic elements with any other book, it makes a new spell using both skills. Sometimes the choice you want to make as your supporting skills should be based on what crafted spells you could make best use of. Worth looking at what those offer.

As a general rule, you want one primary skill you get to 10, always Warfare for physical damage builds.

One secondary skill you get to 3, 5 if you want the “ultimate” spell, they’re not always worth it. For physical builds, this is the skill that you learn spells for, scoundrel for rogues and so on.

Two or three tertiary skills that you use for utility, survivability or other support. These you take 1-3 points in depending on what spells you want from them.

I found a guide here on Steam that show info about every skill in the Game, but I can't find It right now. I will look

Mosquito for now its very good to me, even the three thieves on the top of the door war hard to kill without that spell

Right, but you're still in the lower levels. Damage scaling hasn't really taken effect. You can equip a spear on your mage and, as long as the spear is your level, you'll do good damage. As you get further, the scaling will come into play more and it'll quickly fade in effectiveness.
