Check out Summoning and Necromancy if you want summoned ally options. You're limited to one summoned creature at a time per character.
And i only used Skyrim becuase you can have most fantasy style builds if you close your eyes and pretend Sneak archer doesn't exist or mod it to hell. Still that was a massive chunk that really helped.
FYI i love magic melee builds in game.. and am always so sad when a game says they have them but they Push you into either Pure magic or Pure Melee. or make it where yea you can. You will forever Suck because you wont have the MP for the good spells or the HP to take a hit.
by crossing the skills around and mixing books you can get infusion spells that change the element on the fly.
every turn you will be summoning a totem that does decent damage over 3 turns to assist you and the incarnate
Oh well both sound Alight plus i bought the game already so im looking forward to see what the game.

Dude has done so many on this game
i'd give recommends but... been a while since i played
lol. lmao. the fextralife builds are so bad that there are people that did challenge runs using only the fextralife builds/guides strictly on honor mode.
Fextralife is a decent enough wiki and a occasionally quite good for other games, but their DOS2 builds range from "barely adequate" to "outright unplayable".
melee and magic don't mix well but necromancy does melee (physical armor) damage and can sort of complement it. Also the polymorph magic school is fine for melee characters, adding mobility (flight) and attacks (tentacle) and armor restoration and such. The necromancer also summons an exploding corpse that is of limited use (feeds blood healing though).
The big thing to avoid is splitting your skills between intelligence/casting and physical damage. It does not work as well to do that. The more split you are, the weaker you will be long term; early game will sort of trick you into thinking its viable.
summons can do physical or magic damage. this is a big deal.
Summoners are strong at the start of the game, but typically get weaker late game. This is because summons don't scale as well as the main character(s). Unless you can come up with a cleaver way of getting around this.
If you have enough buffs.. you can clear mind, magic shell, fortify, etc on them. But the key is finding enough ++ summoning gear. With enough of it, they are just nuts. Unfortunately this is half tied to luck, and half tied to digging through every vendor and box you find.
Summons go from carrying the team to being the team to being a lesser team member over time. But its an all in one package -- crowd control (by harassment) of the enemy caster or archer is a big deal, and it does good damage, and also cannon fodder role, possibly healer role, etc. And by late game your summoner character SHOULD also be decent and blowing stuff up with other kinds of spells. Just don't expect to hide behind the demon the entire game. It lets you do that for the first 2 real acts (not counting intro ship) and then you have to step up your game and participate.
I'll note that a "pure" summoner should never be a summoner/anything. A "proper" summoner build focuses memory as their main stat and shoots for Summoning 10, Pyro/Geo/Aero/Hydro 2 as fast as possible. This is so you can craft the infusions for each element and change the summon's element at will. Most notably, this is to acquire the Source infusions once you start having access to Source magic. These infusions give your incarnate their most powerful spells. The summoner plays a utility role mostly, buffing allies, debuffing enemies, applying CC or changing the battlefield to your liking.
At least, that's how I define a "proper" summoner in this game. You simply don't have the AP to be effective at anything else really, nor do you need to be. Doesn't matter if your lightning spells deal nearly no damage, you're only using them to stun the enemy. You're better off having a massive spellbook to apply to every situation over trying to squeeze damage out of the summoner themselves.
If you have any questions at all, just ask. We're here if you need us. Toxicity free most of the time as well (there's always that one random guy that might pop in, but its not common here).
this is prob tru. but ppls just picking up the game is good intro to it. less ya know these dudes in real life or they have access to discord and or some form of mic friendly website to assist them through the basics of the game. Being a kind big learning curve, it good to help them when i personally am not available
as well there are some really good tips and guides in video format he's produced
