lockpick necessity
hi im about to start a new run with some friends and I normally always have an undead so I basicly have infinite, but I am thinking of switching it up a bit so are they normally very finite or does the game give you more then enough/the ability to craft them.

In Fort Joy, you can find nails all over, especially in the shelves at the docks. Collect these and use a hammer on them to craft lockpicks. Each set of nails makes like 4 picks each. Its plentiful enough that the undead factor of free lockpicking is honestly a non-issue, arguably a near-useless feature of the "race" entirely. To give you an idea, even when I do have an undead in the party, they're not always my main thief as I disregard the feature entirely.

There's also a recipe using any key and a bar of soap. Only makes one pick, but its a thing worth mentioning. I think there's a third recipe, but the specifics aren't coming to mind. Haven't actually played in 2 years or so.

You'll find 20-40 Nails in Fort Joy. Each nail equals 4 lockpicks xD...

I beg to differ :D I genuinely resent having to craft lockpicks to actually pick locks instead of selling them for gold to get gear.

Just steal the stuff you want? Or buy it and then steal the money back? xD

yes but what about the extra gold I get from selling lockpicks with the stolen gear?

I mean, given the levels of gold I usually have by roughly level 6, the value of a lockpick is the equivalent of you IRL trying to keep and sell the ice cubes remaining the the bottom of your cup after visiting a fast food place. The effort of selling them just isn't worth how little you're going to get.

Something about it just rubs me the wrong way :D Just like I always steal anything the Order hasn't nailed down, even the empty wooden half crates and that massive painting of Alexander in Orivand's courtroom despite the amount of juggling it requires to actually sell it off. it's not the value it's the principle :D.
