Retribution
So Retribution seems to be pretty underwhelming. I've managed to get it to 14. So with the full 10 from LW and 4 from gear it's at 70% and it barely does any damage compared to what I could do if I put those points into pretty much any other build. I was excited to try a retribution build with skills like taunt, reactive armour, deflective shield, etc etc.

What generally happens is the enemy refuses to attack and just stands there doing nothing. Taunt barely ever works, is it bugged? Deflective shield just tells AI not to attack. Fights take an age so I end up just using some warfare and necro attacks, thus defeating the whole purpose of the build. I might as well spec into warfare necro and take the 14 points I invested in retri out. Wouldn't it be much better if retribution was a hidden stat to the enemy? It seems they know and purposely don't attack.

When they do attack it does decent damage but nowhere near enough to make it worth the investment. 14 retribution!!! I honestly think it's D tier in builds, which is sad.

I know nothing is going to change here and sorry for the rant. It's just really frustrating. I guess I'll respec into something more powerful.

If you want to use retrebution base Dos2 is not the way to go, there is a mod called epic encounters 2 which would let you do that build you were trying to do way better.

Yeah, Retribution is a pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ investment. It's not terrible when you get it incidentally, but I'd never build it unless I'm doing some sort of challenge run. The combat system of DOS2 heavily rewards proactive play, not reactive.

Yeah, all the defensive skills suck. You really should only be investing the ones with skillbooks. Even weapon skills are meh. Warfare is better.

I've been playing my rogue with 14 retribution, and nobody ever attacks her outright because of it. They avoid her, which has it's own perks I guess. I'll probably get rid of those points, but it was something I wanted to try.

Yeah, there’s an undefined aggro system in the game and targets with retribution get a huge benefit from enemies not wanting to target them. Makes it harder to get value from the skill, but it does stop squishy characters from being focused. It just takes so much investment that your overall damage suffers massively as a result too. The defensive skills just take too much commitment for too little payoff to be worthwhile. If there were some unique spells that augmented them, they’d be very useful, but as it stands, they’re just not worth it.

Imagine being able to activate leadership so it sticks for a duration in the event you need to get away from the leader character. Another one that temporarily doubles the effects.

For retribution, receive healing from reflected damage or boost the damage reflected for a time. Maybe even apply it to your whole team at half strength for a bit.

If these skills just had more to them, they would be good.

Agreed, I was really disappointed when I tried Warfare "Guardian Angel" with this retribution character, only to learn that the 50% damage that's redirected to them doesn't use retribution. That was kind of the last straw for me.

enemies pick who they want to attack. They naturally prefer weaker targets. Retribution is negative aggro because the enemy knows it will take damage back. If you are the only shield user in the group, that is the effect of negative aggro because you are harder to kill. Conjurers get aggro because they have the incarnate, which creates a man advantage for more action points. A retribution heavy build will cause enemy AI to treat you as the worst option in a group, unless all in a group have retribution. unless, unless you have retribution and a shield and your teammates have retribution. you dip into retribution to add negative aggro to a character with weaker armor in comparison to teammates - so they don’t get ganged up on too much. you add 2 pts retribution and a shield (only shield user) to cancel out, and more, the aggro of a conjurer with an incarnate. Now the conjurer doesn’t have to go early like everyone on youtube and the internet says. Because you wont get attacked ever, rd one. and not likely rd. 2. Now after 10 pts for the incarnate, water is next for buff and healing. you got dome, that shield throw, all the CC majors, dominate mind, chicken, Medusa Head, Freezing, totems, teleport. The CC for action pt advantage can possibly be used rd 1 if your teammates stripped the armor first. You get the tons of skills now for CC because Retribution and shield let you reroute all those pts and go last without fear, like you should.

yes, like many things in this game, retribution is utterly pointless. You should not be getting hit at all. Spend your points on something that ends the fight quickly
