[ELF] Corpse eater skill
Hey there guys,

Just my 2 cents on the corpse eater skill : I really think it's a pity that you cannot eat every corpse, but just some body parts that you might find.

For example, as I arrived in the fort, I found that woman that seemed to know how to remove the collar, but she wouldn't tell me how. So I got the idea to kill her and eat her corpse to be able to get her memories (and to know how to remove the collars at the same time), but I couldn't because she didn't loot any body part.

Why is it like that ? I can understand it being to avoid a lot of NPCs' lore writing, but you can always come up with somehing like "its memories bring nothing of use" or "he/she was a soldier" or some other random ideas for non-essential NPCs.

I think it would be a lot more interesting to be able to eat every corpse. It would bring many opportunities to advance in a quest, or give more lore for story-lovers :)

What do you guys think ? Should it stay as it is ? Or would it be a good idea to really be able to eat every corpse as an elf ?

TL DR : you should be able to eat every corpse as an elf, and not only body parts.

Discuss ;)

You kidding? I learned some cool skills from that ability.
It is awkward from a narrative perspective, not a gameplay one. It would be a better trait for the undead.

Undead don't eat. Furthermore, the concept of passing down memories through consuming flesh is not new and I think it wonderfully fits the elves in this universe as they are long-lived (how long exactly we do not know yet). So naturally they want to preserve and impart memories. Another plus is that it's actual consuming of flesh, and not some magic mumbo-jumbo ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like we usually get in an elf fantasy setting. It makes them really interesting and will probably open some really cool paths to follow story- and conversation-wise.

I like the idea of cannibal elves: not only it makes them unique and less noble than usual, it also gives everyone else a very good reason to be prejudiced against them.

As for "Why can't I eat the one who can destroy collars to find out how to do that myself" - elves don't get access to everything the deceased knew. Unless he was intensely focusing on something right before his death, or some event left a huge mark on him, it's more of a blur of years and years of daily life.
So if you eat the blacksmith, you'll find out if she was happy or not, if she was longing for someone or maybe the name of her nemesis, but you won't get every detail of intricate process necessary to remove a collar.

The elves do learn skills from eating corpses though one of the body parts early on teaches the fortify skill.

Mechanically every character doesn't drop body parts because body parts are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome healing items. They provide a potent regen buff-the first tick of which is applied upon consumption- which is further increased by the 5-Star Diner talent.

Lore-wise? I think it has something to do with the emotional content of the owner's dying moments. There's a mini-quest thing where you find a dead elf who apparently thought particularly hard about where she stashed her treasure before killing herself so that another elf could find it.

Ah, I get your point. That seems fair like that. Still I'd love to be able to get more lore through body eating. But if, as Bardcore said, each body parts are very strong healing items, it would completely unbalance the game I guess... I don't really know how they could work around this idea :/ Well, we'll know later !

some corpse parts just heal the elf that has this skill and gives a bit of his story . Would be cool what i get befor i have to gnaw at a slimy skull or a stinky Torso lol .

I think they should not tell you what you'd get, because you don't know who the person you eat was, so you don't know what you'll learn. It would leave some things to discover, whereas if you know before eating what you'll get, there would be no meaning in discovering the game by yourself. They could directly tell you everything there is to know, which would be quite sad imo :(

Hi All,

Just a silly question on the corpse eating, how does it work or being use? Is it just possible by simply clicking on each corpse or there is a skill or hotkey needed to eat a corpse? I am not sure if I have been eating each corpse or I did not at all. (My main character is Sebille/Elf).

Thanks.

Corpse eater is potentially game breaking if they give it to more than a few things in terms of ability buffs...

Having a character with all the benefits of every class = absurdity

You can only eat body parts that you can find on some corpse as loot at the moment. Dont know if the devs intend to change it though (that was my main complaint on this topic^^)

Yes, and having to eat every corpse in the game to find out if you can learn anything from it wouldn't get tedious at all.
fauxpas 2016 年 10 月 9 日 下午 6:37
Eh, personally I think "corpse eater" should be both a racial ability as well as a trait that others could learn.

to be honest it's a genetic and or soul thing which they have naturally from a lore stand point would be hard to replicate really also would really kill some of the lore also something others on this discussion don't get is why you can't eat everyone is also because elves look down very harshly on those who take flesh and memorys unwillingly from a living person and even some dead ones also another thing carniverous/cannible elves isn't new wood elves from the elder scrolls series have alot of cannibilism which is culture and religion centered
