[ELF] Corpse eater skill
Hey there guys,

Just my 2 cents on the corpse eater skill : I really think it's a pity that you cannot eat every corpse, but just some body parts that you might find.

For example, as I arrived in the fort, I found that woman that seemed to know how to remove the collar, but she wouldn't tell me how. So I got the idea to kill her and eat her corpse to be able to get her memories (and to know how to remove the collars at the same time), but I couldn't because she didn't loot any body part.

Why is it like that ? I can understand it being to avoid a lot of NPCs' lore writing, but you can always come up with somehing like "its memories bring nothing of use" or "he/she was a soldier" or some other random ideas for non-essential NPCs.

I think it would be a lot more interesting to be able to eat every corpse. It would bring many opportunities to advance in a quest, or give more lore for story-lovers :)

What do you guys think ? Should it stay as it is ? Or would it be a good idea to really be able to eat every corpse as an elf ?

TL DR : you should be able to eat every corpse as an elf, and not only body parts.

Discuss ;)

TBH, the fact that the elves are corpse eater in this game is what sparkled my interest for them.
Otherwise they would have been the stereotypical type that we see everywhere...

Who knows? The game is in alpha so it could be a feature that is yet to be added, I know from the early previews there was plans to be able kill people and see and speak to their ghosts so I suppose it could be done.

As it is the game already favor elves. But if they bring an idea into the game they should go to town with it. Yes, every corpses should be edible.

How so ? Care to elaborate ? I didn't find the elves to be above any other race stats and skills wise...

I think its supposed to be just to give some extra fluff mostly, like pet pal.

To make every character be able to be eaten would require a lot of text and potentially a lot of copy/paste text. Best to keep it minimum and significant rather than all over the place resulting in same old same old.

Content wise they are favored. Eating corpses to learn about quests and skills.
And elves's racial ability make them really good for a specific build while not gimping them. To be honest, no races are gimped at all but elves get a good specilization and good chance at branching out like other races at the same time.

I get your point (a friend of mine told me that too), but in the 1st game, Pet Pal would give you more quest, and opportunities to approach / solve a quest in different ways. So Corpse Eater could do the same, don't you agree ?

Also, you say it would be same old same old, with a lot of text, but, again, Pet Pal was like that in the 1st game. You would sometimes talk to, say, a rat, and he would tell you nothing interesting, just some random stuff, so I don't think it would be hard to add that much content.

Maybe only elves could loot body parts to be eaten, so that if you don't play as one, you don't get useless meat ? Or add a skill that let you eat the corpse instead of looting body parts ?

I really hope the skill will be more that meet the eye, and be of use to have new opportunities to advance on a quest, or get some info (for example, you could eat a guard and know what lies ahead in a dungeon, so that you could prepare yourself better). Of course, you shouldn't be able to eat a skeleton, because, you know, only bones and no meat ;)

Don't mind that body parts are limited i.e. not on all bodies. But seems to be bugged for now. As they don't give you a memory / quest etc. yet it just fortifies health

It is an awkward skill anyway and should be dumped.

I don't want it being overused and everyones first thought being "kill, eat, complete". I like it the way it is.

You kidding? I learned some cool skills from that ability.

Each race, gender, origin and aspiration already has unique ways in progressing the game. Still each character has about the same number of unique options in relation to every other character.

The Corpse Eater skill breaks this balance in favor of the Elven race, as it in addition to giving Elfes their race based unique gameplay option, they get a second set of unique gameplay options. Id deny myself possibly a good number of unique loot, quests and thus character progression and ultimately also playtime when choosing a human, dwarf or lizard character.

Thus I propose all the secondary race traits to get the same number of unique gameplay options as the Corpse Eater skill of the Elfes, E.g. Human Resolve, Dwarven Guile and Lizard Spellsong.

Edit:

Examples (which no other race can do and getting unqiue rewards this way) are:
- activating the Human Resolve in battle allowing for a NPC that is attacked in battle to survive
- activating Dwarfen Guile to uncanny disarm a trap the otherwise would destroy a loot chest
- activating spellsong to soothe a possessed NPC in battle that will survive and offers heirloom

It is awkward from a narrative perspective, not a gameplay one. It would be a better trait for the undead.

How do you actually use the skill, because just eating it has the same effect for all characters whether you have the corpse eater skill or not
