I have the same Q and I fear that there are only a few armor sets :(

It is the same in D:OS 2 EA I am afraid.

Larian has not yet made any attempts to improve upon the lackluster itemization in D:OS.

There aren't many armors, so it's hard to tell. They look pretty similar, but not exactly the same, like the first. Each race does have different looks for armor though, which is nice. Now isn't the best time to really decide, it's not even done yet. Also, you do see a lot of unique armors on other characters, so I'm sure there will be cool armor for the players too.

I'm hoping for a lot of variety down the line, but won't hold my breath for it. I like what is in-game so far, but I do want to see additional styles. As example, I am not a fan of bulky looking stuff. So when it comes to platemail, or even leather armor, I like the more elegant, and less bulky look. Platemail with skirts, and form fitting leather is my thing,

Unfortunately this is a deal breaker for me, I like to feel immersed when I play a game, not having many options to visual customize myself despite the story and gameplay isn't appealing to me at all.

This is quite an undead thread, nice necroing. ;)

I feel with you, I also like variety in looks. I despise games like Dragon Age Inquisition with one whole-body armor slot and a lot of "different" armors which are all without exception of the Shirt-and-Pants-style.

In DOS2 it's a bit better. Although the biggest differences come from the races. I like the peculiar elf style for example, while humans look quite normal (and fat unfortunately). On humans you can only see slight variety between leather and scale, while mages wear long skirts. That's ok.

In the character creation process you see a lot of different armors, even a skirt-like for human males. I hope they are in the game as higher level armors.

This has been a problem for larian since divine divinity, where npcs have unique looking armors while the player is only limited to one armor set. Shouldn't it be opposite?

Definitely alot more armor variety than D:OS1, and reach race has a different style to how their armor is desgined. Lizards wear more imperial military gear, and elves wear mostly leaves anranged in different styles and patterns etc.
Don't think there's nothing stopping people from mixing armour types if you wanted to achieve a certain look. It's what i will be doing anyway. You're just bound by race choice. The dwarven wolf head piece is pretty sweet, would prefer that over the plate helm for my warrior. Hard to tell what certain armours classify as though. Like the Lizard Enchanter's gear preview.
