Physics based lighting?
Quantum mechanics confirmed in D:OS2
Actually, most AAA studios use a pre-existing engine, for many, many reasons. The primary reason is that those engines already have many years of work put into them. With most things, such as linear lighting, real-time shadows, shader and material implementation, physics foundation, etc, there's not much point in "reinventing the wheel" when there's already a solid backbone with a decade of work put into it. Look up a lot of the games that you play and you'll be surprised that 95% of them are in a pre-existing engine.
With that said, Unity has some great looking games, too. It's all about how proficient the developers are. Just to name a few:
• Blizzard did a great job making Hearthstone in Unity.
• Then there's the ever-popular Ori And The Blind Forest, which is gorgeous, in Unity.
• Cities: Skylines looked great for when it was released as well, also in Unity.
• Endless Legend looks great and is one of the best 4x games I've ever played, also in Unity
• P.A.M.E.L.A. is gorgeous, also in Unity, but not released yet.
For a tiny house a loading screen, goodbye immerson
