Distinctive Herbs
With the better crafting grab bag or whatever it's called in order to craft skill books certain 'distinctive' herbs are required from the herb garden grab bag. Does any one know how to acquire/make distinctive herbs? I haven't been able to find an aero skill book from a vendor in my game yet, the random restock keeps rolling other books in the vendors that carry them. I have learned that certain vendors can have distinctive herbs in their inventory after a trader update but so far it's only been a single one and it hasn't been the one I've needed.

(Edited June 26th for clarity.)

Which one? I've tried looking under skillbooks, potions, food, materials, enchants, none of them mention the distinctive herbs needed to craft the blank skillbooks. I have no idea how to obtain them.

I'm missing something - making skill books requires an enchanted quill and ink combined with paper/parchment to make blank scrolls which you then combine 3 of into a blank skill book which is then converted into a useable skillbook by combining it with a spell scroll.

With the improved crafting grab bag or the like a blank skillbook requires a leather cover, a quill, and a "distinctive" type herb.

I was under the impression they couldn't be crafted at all otherwise.

I struggled with this looking for ages to find this so I did some testing :sectoid:

For each of these you need:
  • Empty Bucket
  • Oil Surface (I threw an oil flask but you could destroy an oil barrel)
  • The 'normal' (non distinctive version of the herb)
Then:
  1. Combine the the bucket with the herb (I do this on PC by dragging a bucket that's already on the floor into the crafting menu and dragging the herb from the inventory into the crafting menu, this should leave the seedling on the floor)

  2. Move or place the seedling then it will grow. (onto an oil surface before or after the seedling has grown)

I found that even if the herb has already grown you can move it into the oil surface, or when your placing/moving the seedling (your mileage may vary)

You'll get 1-3 of the original herb back and 1 of the distinctive version of that herb.

I tested this with all herbs I could see in potions and skill books here:
Wiki - Potions [divinityoriginalsin2.wiki.fextralife.com]
Wiki - Skill Books [divinityoriginalsin2.wiki.fextralife.com]

All of these worked: (I did it on the Lady Vengeance too)

  • Distinctive Farhangite
  • Distinctive Puffball
  • Distinctive Drudanae
  • Distinctive Wizard's Hat Agaric
  • Distinctive Trumpet of Death
  • Distinctive Tea
  • Distinctive Amadouvier
  • Distinctive Boletus
  • Distinctive Whisperwood

I hope this helps you as it did me finding this out :Toxic_Geralt:

I hope other people find this and it helps them, I posted the issue a bit over a year ago now. If I ever get back to the game I'll absolutely try it out. Thanks a ton for your research and help.
