On the Ropes is impossible
Once the fire blobs spawn, it's unwinnable. I've tried about fifty times now. Guess the game ends here for me, level 13.

You can't bless away the cursed fire. It's immediately cursed again. You can't put it out. You can't kill anything quickly enough because the enemies constantly heal. You can't heal your people through it because they're constantly cursed and decaying. You can't prevent the fires by never igniting the oil because it'll ignite itself. You can't rain away the oil, because the oil blobs will keep spawning until they cover the ground in cursed oil.

It's the perfect encounter to completely stop the player's progress, full halt. Effective zero DPS. Effective zero HPS. No counter. No defense. No escape. No way to avoid the encounter in the first place.

gg devs. This may be the most unsatisfying ending to a game that I've ever seen.

It's not that hard, just stay out of the way and nibble them down. Teleport the guy towards his family's house and hope he runs there instead of back to the fight. Then blink your crew towards the cave entrance and wait for them. If you have summons, put them in front and stay out of the fight until the end.

I spent a day off teleporting him. An entire day. An entire day off doing only that, last week.
He always runs into the fight.

Once the fire blobs spawn, he's also always kept decaying the entire time. Cure it, and he's immediately decaying again. Cryo him, and as soon as it wears off, he's decaying again. The blobs perma target him until he decays.

About half my play time is this one fight. It seems engineered to ensure it can't be passed.

Yeah, after a few tries just let him die and continue on, you don't need Hannag's help. I've done that fight several times and never saved him. I hear though that if you get him close enoughto his family's house, he'll run there. I will try that next time. Saving him is the only hard thing and it's not necessary.

I'll try that now. I'll take out that magister over there first.

With enough teleport books, that may be possible. Problem is, there doesn't seem to be enough. I've found the teleport gloves at the beginning, and one merchant with the book in act 1.

The reason this is game over for me is, I can't pass the other stuff until I get stronger. The black ring guys and the thing who wants me to kill them both pwn me. There isn't enough to level up, so I'm stuck with getting the xp for this or starting over.

Every aerothurge skill book vendor in the game will have a Teleport skillbook once you reach level 4, and if you buy/steal it they'll get a new one when their inventory refreshes (every level, and after some amount of playtime).

Of course you can kill the blobs quickly enough, I did exactly so while I had a pyromancer in my party who obviously couldn't do anything substantial (but at least made short work of all the previous blobs). That was on tactician, without using any of the advanced tactics people describe here to try and protect the young madman (maybe some source hydro skills to heal him through decay, but I don't remember), and trust me, my party setup could never have been described as optimal. Sure it's hard, sure everything is on fire, but in my opinion there are several more difficult encounters you can have in this act.

Also yeah, if you never found any more aerothurge skillbooks since act 1, maybe it's just time to hit up the market.

+1

The only thing that got desperate in this fight was my GPU.
An archer with ballistic shot can 1 hit the little blobs. You need physical CC and lots of healing and armor of frost. Dont hesitate to use scrolls.

If you're playing a custom character Dome of protection js great for this fight.

I *love* this encounter because it goes to such extremes and forces you to really start thinking about what you can do within this game's combat system. In fairness the first time I played it, I thought the game had glitched out because the fight seemed so nuts. But it's really something.

I do similar to this but in one or two teleports only, you can get the jumped up little mullet to a cliff to the north of that platform with an easily defensible area with a nice handy vine to the top of the cliff.

Teleport the magisters down and let them fight the blobs, you can made and epic last stand on the top with the guy you must save on the top of the structure.
Don t be afraid of fire, it helps a lot vs the oil blobs. Focus the fire blobs one at a time (only the small ones can jump). Use fortification and froze armor, grenades and source skills, everything works.

After finding more teleport scrolls and trying it without dialog, I bet this is the answer. Still need to try it, but time is the difficulty at this point. I run out of characters who can teleport him before I get him far enough away, and then he's suicide running right back in. If dialogue stops his idiot run, then that's the way.

Without this paper loon hanging around, the actual combat shouldn't be so bad.

move a crate in front of one of the tents on the right side of the wooden structure and teleport him inside the tent. without a path to get him out of the tent the game will teleport him to his next scripted appearance, next to his family house.

then since he is not there he will not cast his source skill and the blobs will not spawn, you only have to kill the magisters to complete the quest (or you could simply run away if the magisters are too strong).

I mean. I rarely do this area until well after level 15-16. The Harbinger boss over in paradise downs I take out at level 11 (he's 15). With a proper team and good synergy between each party member, along with good tactics utilizing the battle machanics, you can take on just about any fight two levels down. I played an entire tactician game before DE with a mod that made enemies level up as soon as combat started to two levels higher than you, even healed them up so initiating from stealth was harder to abuse. Still beat the game just fine.

IF this area is too much, you can take on other areas. You just need to think it through as blunt forcing isn't gonna work.
