Lone Wolf builds
Hi I’m really loving this game but I was curious if lone wolf actually works. I am already having a challenging time in normal with a four person group and I can’t see how going at it alone would even be possible.

I definitely would like to try it though so if anyone has any tips or builds I would appreciate it. Melee or Mage is fine with me just not summoning I find that kinda boring honestly.

First thing to clear up is that Lone Wolf does not mean alone. You can have two Lone Wolf characters in your party without losing the benefits of the talent. It is only if you add a third that they will both lose extra stats and skills and such.

But yes it is very viable. In fact, prior to the Definitive Edition release, playing with 2 Lone Wolves was considered easy mode. They allow for extremely overpowered builds.

After the DE release, the high end possibilities for builds is toned down. But it is still quite a bit stronger than a regular character.

A popular melee build is something along the lines of:

5 (10) Warfare
4 (8) Necromancy
4 Poly
2 (4) Scoundrel
2 (4) Geo
2 (4) Hydro
1 (2) Aero

With 5 (10) meaning 5 points spent to achieve rank 10 with the lone wolf bonus. This would be a total of 20 spent, by a level 20 character.

A popular choice is Fane for this build as a two-handed melee, but a dual dagger wielding backstabber works just as well.

The Warfare boosts your physical damage and obviously gives you all the Warfare skills.
The Necromancy opens up some ranged physical attacks, some AOE, and even some magic CC for after your other character knocks out enemy magic armor. And of course, self heal for 80% of damage done to enemy life pool.
The Poly gives some more stat points, and opens up the excelent Poly skills.
Scoundrel gives you even more physical damage and utility. Obviously if going two-handed instead of daggers you drop this to 1 (2) and only take only the utility and put the other point somewhere else.
The Geo gives you self buffs to your physical armor with decent effectiveness.
The Hydro gives you the same for your magic armor.
And the Aero is because having Teleport and Uncanny Evasion on as many characters as you can is just so good.

This is in fact the build I used the first time I went through the game solo with a Lone Wolf on Tactical difficulty.

For stats pump strength if going two-handed, or pump finesse if going with daggers. You will want lots of Memory because having a lot skills available instead of being stuck waiting for things to come off cooldown is important when having less characters. And with Fane`s extra turn source ability, you can end up taking some long turns. Especially if use Adrenelin and are shapeshifted to Elf and use Skingraft on your second turn after getting those extra AP, and then using both extra AP abilities again in the same turn! Having Fane spend over 20 AP before anyone else gets a turn is fun :)

And honestly, for 2nd Lone Wolf, you can just go with a pure elementalist who invests 5 points to get rank 10 in Aero, Pyro, Geo and Hydro.

Having this pair will open up a very large number of options for how you handle the battles. It`s a lot of fun because you don`t have to stick to doing the same thing over and over. And when you right-click examine to see their resistances, you can always go after their weakness.

For Civil abilities with just 2 charactes I always spend 3 in Thievery and 4 in Lucky Charm on one character. And rely on gear swaps to get higher Thievery as needed. With just the +2 amulet you have 6 Lucky Charm and will have that covered.

For the other character, max out whatever you prefer. Sometimes I go with Persuasion. Other times Loremaster. And sometimes I split it 5 Persuasion and 2 Loremaster.

And FYI. The game has been beaten, on Tactical difficulty, with just 1 normal character who does not have lone wolf. I`ve done it and so have others. It is just all about knowing all the details about the game systems, loot locations, and exactly what you face in each fight.

Very detailed. Thank you :)

Check this guy out, he makes well detailed solo builds

EDIT: Solo Honour Build - Shadow Assassin was my favourite.

I read through some of them but it seems they’re not really optimized for this state of the game
