Can't defend Malady on the ship
Classic mode, party is level 7 or 8. Red Prince is a knight, Ifan is Wayfarer, Sebille is rogue, Lohse is summoner/hydrosophy.

This fight is impossible. Ifan and Lohse start the fight on the other side of the ship, away from every ally, and when I try to get them back to the side of the ship where Malady needs to be defended they die before they can make it. Silent Monks and Gheists teleport behind them and use attacks of opportunity every time they try to move (doing 100-200 damage each time) and I can't kill them because Lohse and Ifan don't have enough damage by themselves to kill such tough enemies. Also there's an archer above them hitting them for 200-400 damage each turn. So Lohse and Ifan are basically unusable in the fight. All they can do is distract 2-3 enemies for 3 rounds before they die.

Red Prince and Sebille begin the fight close to Malady, which is good, but they don't have enough damage by themselves to take out enemies in one round. So here's how the fight goes:

1. Half of my team is useless because they're on the other side of the ship, forget about them.

2. A Gheist, a Knight and a Weaponized Monk immediately teleport to Malady and begin hitting her for 200-300 damage each per turn. Red Prince and Sebille try to kill one of them but they need 3 rounds of combat each to kill just one of them.

3. Try to heal Malady with fortify/restoration scrolls. She's being hit with 300 damage each time an enemy hits her, my fortify scrolls heal 60 physical armour, my restoration scrolls heal 40 health.

4. Malady dies.

5. Malady dies on the next try.

6. Malady dies on the next try.

7. Malady dies on the next try.

8. Malady dies on the next try.

9. Malady dies on the next try.

10. Malady dies on the next try.

The enemies aren't attacking my party, they're just hammering Malady right from the moment the battle begins, and there's not a damn thing I can do. Maybe Lohse could teleport one of them away, but Lohse is stuck on the other side of the ship. Maybe Ifan could use his geomancer skills to slow down the enemies, but he's stuck on the other side of the ship. Maybe Ifan could use his teleport scroll to teleport one away from her, but he's on the other side of the ship.

Maybe I could actually win if two of my party weren't rendered useless.

I had the same problem playing that fight on tactician mode. I got around it by abusing some game mechanics, you probably could do it too.

Try using teleport or nether swap on Malady to move her out of range of the rushing enemies. On tactician, I had two people with teleport, one aeromage and one was using the gloves. If you constantly bounce her around they cannot catch up long enough to kill her.
If you have an invisibility potion you can use it on your isolated teammates to move them into position without taking a ton of free damage.
Smoke screen or blessed smoke screen can also work.
Taunt can take the heat off her for a turn or two.
Use oil, atrophy, sleeping, blind abilities as often as you can you don't actually have to kill anyone, just slow their movement and dps.
I doubt you have one, but if you saved a deathfog barrell for this it makes the fight incredibly easy.
Bless and other buffs like encourage also help extend her life.

(Sorry for my english)
I just finish this battle on "classic". Did Sir Garret with you? He helps a lot. Im heals a Malady with mages and split the others, so they can distract the enemy. Remember - you dont need to kill the enemy, you need to stand about ~10 turns. I hope you will win! Good luck!

Heal and Buff Malady.
CC the enemies. Some of them have only one typ of armor.
Throw a smoke granate at malady.
Teleport enemies away.

If you have mind maggot jar from kniles or the braccus tower, you can craft a mind maggot grenade with the jar and an empty grenade. OR use a love grenade that kniles always drops. There are 3 (maybe 4? been a while) enemies with no magic armor on the boat, and they will fight for you if you hit them with the grenade. Mind maggot is better due to longer (5 turn vs 2) duration, and wider radius.

That essentially cuts the enemies in half while giving you more fire power as well. You could also save it until malady is surrounded, then try to hit a gheist whose magic armor you've stripped in addition to the other magicless enemies.
Don't recall them doing that much damage on classic. Your party sounds similar to mine as well, though less focused.

Left
1. Hydro/warfare dwarf custom
His warfare skills, taunt and dome of protection were useful
2. Lohse pure summoner
Her summon and source skill were useful for damage and CC after buff.

Right
3. Iran pure physical dps, warfare ranger
Got high ground and stripped armor and killed. Executioner was very useful.
4. Custom undead duel wielding rogue with pylomorth
Did good damage and CC with combination of sleep and chicken effects.

Succeeded first try. Killed almost everything but then a glass cannon ranger with executioner on high ground is pretty dangerous, if they don't CC him.

This. Use surfaces to slow them down. Delay tactics. Your whole team doesn't have to survive. Use resurrection scrolls to get another char back up to delay them more. Teleports and netherswap works well.

Thanks for the replies all, I finally did it and it was a lot of fun. I used lots of scrolls and knockdown arrows and other shenanigans to keep the enemies sleeped/knocked down/crippled/blinded/frpzen.

Gareth was no help at all. He spent the whole battle fighting a lone archer on the other side of the ship.

Another tip for anyone else who might see this and need it... If you move the chains around with the character portraits and reorganize their order, it can mix up which characters are where on the ship. You might have to play with it a bit to figure out who goes where in which order, but you can definately order your team around by moving those portraits to get a better starting position.

All you have to do is teleport them away.
