Scoundrel could still be useful purely as a passive for more crits though.
Do wings give higher elevation bonus?
Hydro is a good one to mix with Huntsman IMO. The Huntsman can provide back-line heal and armor support between attack turns. Aero is a good mix as well, offering high-speed options, Shock to slow enemies, and Teleport to save yourself is melee enemy gets close.
Huntsman doesn't do much damage though, and his range from the party on most encounters positions him well for a support role. Besides, having support options doesn't detract from the Huntsman's ability to deal damage, it only adds more options for when pure damage output isn't going to save a losing fight.
Unless you're playing on one of the easier difficulties, in which case almost anything works and most encounters can be powered through with little regard to tactics. In which case, do whatever!
Though, I would figure anyone specced for crits would do a lot of damage. It may not be innate to Huntsman's moveset so much as the fact that if you stack stats into damage for any class they remain strong. If the same number of identical stats were given to other classes, I don't imagine Huntsman would hold up.
