Hero/Villain Tags (spoilers)
So my friend unlocked the Hero tag in our game.

When you get to driftwood you will eventually find A group of magisers about to execute some people kneeling. Instead of making a check you just call out the magisters and attack and you unlock a Hero tag for dialogues.

In the EA there was a villain tag if I recall. Has anyone found how to unlock it in release?

You can get the Hero Tag pretty early in the game.

The Quest with the mad man at the beach. Just take the quest in fort joy from his daugther looking for him, bring him a flower and you get his ring. Give the ring to his daugther and she will go to the beach and you get the hero tag.

Whats the villian tag? I'd like to get that for a character.

Nope, you can get it with any character, depending on what choices you make. I've deducted so far that leeching source from ghosts is the most effective route, though I've read that people got it when they killed quest givers, "enslaved" Lady Vengeance or told Griff that Stingtail stole his oranges.

I killed everyone in fort (and many places later :> ), got hero from some quest there but no villain

I assume that once you get one it's not possible to get the other. That would make sense, I'd say. Can't verify it however.

I assume, HE WIPE OUT ENTIRE ISLE and now call himself hero

Perhaps a hero in the sense of their god, hah. Eradicating every single opponent, no matter if they're Godwoken or not. ;)

Anyhow, I'm rather disappointed that it seems so ridiculously easy to obtain the hero tag. Would've preferred if you could pick one at character creation, and keeping the possibility of getting it by your choices as well.

I got it! Managed to get villain. As I said whole first island killed except for few people from hidden camp, on second act I got it after helping some ghost lizard and then eating him :)

I got the Villain tag by killing a Meat Golem in a cage while fighting Kniles. Or so I though.
Then I realised I've probably got it from killing little Trice hiding in the corner. I cast Contamination during the fight, turning all blood into poison, and through a chain reaction with some fire, made Trice stand in a blazing inferno.

I got the Hero tag by helping Magister Yarrow reunite with her father, without killing him.
(Then I killed them both on the beach, looting both the healing ring and his plate mail...)

You can get both tags, but from some experimenting, it seems to be harder to get the other after you have gotten one. For instance, if you have the hero tag, it will be harder to get the villain tag and vice versa.
