Can you remove Player Character (Avatar) from game?
I started a multiplayer game with my friend, he created his own custom character. That said, he's no longer playing, but it seems I'm stuck with his Custom Dwarf. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to remove him, which means I'm bound to him as a party member (and therefor cannot add other Origin members around Fort Joy).

How do I dismiss this Player Created Character?

if you are the host of the MP session then you have control of all characters created by others if they leave the game. Just talk to the dwarf with your main characterf and tell him you don't need him anymore.

Hrmmm, I tried that but the only options i have when I click on my friend's dwarf is:

Unchain
Pick Pocket
Attack
Examine

None of which provide an opportunity for removal.

Party management doesnt seem to give any options either.

I just tried a couple of things to no avail. There's a message under party management that makes me think you can't dismiss an avatar character.

Man, that'd be really disappointing. Seems like they setup the whole system for players to be able to jump in and out of games, but this seems counter logic. I hope it's not the case, or they'll fix it in the future.

did you left click and talk? you don't see it with right click.
but maybe it does not work with a MPChar.

Can't left click to talk with them. Only time I can left click to talk is when there's a unique dialogue option (and my friend is playing his character).
I have the exact same problem. Had a friend playing fane but now we play on a different save. I continued playing it in single player and his Fane is marked as an Avatar character and I can't talk to or dismiss him. I also have to do some of the dialogue twice with both characters and its the same for both, really quite annoying.

So after making war with the custom character, which separates the character from the initial party, and joining in as an npc, the host was able to remove that custom character, after giving in to my desire to play Lohse. We were screwing around when we did this, so I'm not 100% sure if this is the procedure that worked, but hope this does absolve anyone with this issue.

Edit - Downside is that this means that person who had once controlled the now deceased character is seen as a non-primary, and has the usual limitations of an npc character. Was hoping to swap to Lohse, after seeing how interesting her story is. But to lose ground like that bugs me.

We made war, but how do you rejoin as an NPC? Does anyone need to leave the game while this is happening? If you could give a step by step guide to it, that'd be very useful.

Also are NPC restrictions just story related (i.e I can still use NPC shops/etc?)

I'd recruited the npc, unlinked it from my character, and had the host commit war unto me. Once my character was dead, I left, forcing my character to enter a "neutral" status. The party leader was then able to enter the party settings and then remove that character, just leaving the Lohse in the party, allowing me to rejoin and play as her.

Like I'd mentioned, I was screwing around, so that's about as much of a guide I can offer. Keep in mind, you face the same restrictions as any "temp" npc (that not of your initial party's make-up from creation), so you will neither be seen as a leader, nor will you pertain any information from the story up to that point of progress. When I joined, I was seen as a lacky, and the information required to progress was only known by the host's character, and not of my own.

I'd also like to reinforce the point that because this was only done once, I don't know if declaring war on an ally is necessary.

Interesting! I think it's so weird that it's not a feature already to simply have the player removed. I played through the entire first act, hoping that once I got to the Respec/Change party phase I'd be able to remove the character. Still no-go. I'l give this a shot and see what happens.

I may be late to this, however I have found the solution. Press Y in game or go to "Party Management" there is a boot icon to dismiss them from the party. This can also be done while they are in game, and they are able to play their own separate ways with their own groups.
