cleave damage?

Any one know what increased cleave damage means?
I've looked online and just about anywhere and can't seem to figure out what increased cleave damage on a weapon actually does.

Basically when you attack, there is an additional cone of damage around your main target. If a weapon has 30% cleave, that cone will do 30% of the weapon's damage.
