Uhhh. The crafting in this game is way more in depth then a lot of games. Read books, they often contain recipes. Try combining things you think would make an item. Yes you can craft skills by combining skill books. Experiment. OFc the first thing you learn to craft is going to be what you can do when you wash up on shore, all you got is sticks and rocks.

There are plenty of things to craft, including gear, but the recipes have changed substantially.

The Crafting (and Blacksmithing) skills were dropped because everyone can craft now. (In the first game they just ended up being a skill tax, or causing people to do a lot of micromanagement with hirelings.)

No crafting skills - best change in the game. I absolutely hate when I have to decide between civil and combat skills in a game where combat is so important so I totally skipped crafting in DOS1. Now I can enjoy it without gimping my characters.

crafting skills were stupid
I just had jahan max his crafting skills and never once used him in combat

no crafting skills is perfectly fine for me, but crafting of weapons and armors / necklaces, rings... seems pretty useless and pointless... this is somehow a let down for me as I liked to craft some usefull gear here and there...

You can still craft armor......I actually don't even know for sure if the recipes even changed. For armor you'll need some needle and thread I think and either cloth or leather for the light armors. The armors you can make scale with the level of the character crafting it. I don't know if you can enchant it though. I'm still messing around with the crafting system so I don't know for sure.

The crafting in D:OS2 is essentially pointless. I make potions, frame runes, and hammer nails through boots, that's it. There's no need to craft skill books or runes, because by the time you can they're available directly from vendors. Crafted equipment is all completely useless white gear, and the freeform gear enhancement from D:OS1 seems to be completely gone.

It's as if Larian half finished their crafting system then just decided to abandon it.

The skill books cost a crap ton of money though. I personally focus on crafting of arrows and grenades. Hell, even scrolls because they sell for a ♥♥♥♥ ton. I have three party members to carry my crap for me anyway so it's a good money maker if you pick up what you need.

yea, crafting looks pretty much unfhinished....
I was so excited when I found the 1st anvil and workbench and saw... but after a lot of combining and trying out... nothing worked... it seems like besides the standard Shiv or Knife on a stick things, you cannot get anything advanced... weapons will be stronger based on your level but thats it... no magic properties, nothing? besides the rune system, no other option for us to pimp our gear and weapons? very dissapointing.... otherwise a perfect game, but this makes me a bit sad

I'm very disappointed with crafting as well. Take wands for example. If you craft a makeshift wand at level 5 it will have lesser stats than a store-bought wand at level 4! What's the point then? It's such a shame since I was looking forward to equipping my characters with crafted stuff until I realized how bad the stuff you craft is.

Armor crafting at the very least gets you a chestplate of equal strength to store bought stuff, but it's completely basic common rarity...

I'd hope for the crafting system to be expanded with more recipes in a patch somewhere down the line, but considering the lengthy early access period I really doubt it'll be happening.
