On the Ropes- Tips/Advice?
The nonstop Oil Voidlings/Fire Voidlings are hard for me to manage. Everytime a voidling dies, they leave a ♥♥♥♥-ton of cursed fire everywhere, causing Gwydian to die super fast. I've tried healing and giving him armor, but he still ends up dying. I've tried blessing the fire so it heals, but it quickly goes back to being cursed thanks to these kamikaze oily blobs flinging themselves at my party.

Is there a way to prevent the voidlings from spawning? Or do I just have to wait until I'm overleveled to do this battle? I'll admit, I don't think my party is suited for this fight (Rogue, Ranger, Warrior, and Fire Mage/Summoner).

Teleporting is what I've heard that works best

This was the hardest fight I had so far and it took me a few tries but heres some tips -

- Bless turns Necrofire to normal fire which you can then douse (ice, water, water arrows, grenades, knockdown skills etc)
- The oil voidlings spawn first and they kill themselves pretty quick on the necrofire, just finish them off as fast as possible and don't spread your chars too much, they also have no magic armour so you can cc chain them,
- When the fire voidlings spawn, they have high magic armour but low physical armour so work on ccing them with whatever you can (ie knockdown, polymorph spider, bull, cripple) once their armour is gone, they also take a lot of magic damage from air and ice skills (make sure to right click examine each one and see which one you should focus on first for resistances)
- teleport and nether swap skill really helps
try to keep Gwydian alive with a tank/buffer near him at all times, his damage is pretty good both physical and his air spells help a ton

What I did was keep everyone on the top most platform where Gwydian was being hanged, kept using bless alternating between my characters once the oil voidlings were all dead and then putting out the necrofire on that single platform. I had 1 physical buffing character with knockdown skills and 1 enchanter (hydro + air) who kept gwydians magic armour up and cc'd the mobs

Tough fight but with a bit of preparation you'll get there, also make sure to craft/buy water grenades, water arrows etc, anything disposable that helps, air too. Even if they dont put out necrofire on their own, the magic damage and cc really helps

good luck

Basically this, If you've got a magician/healer expand their repertoire of hydro spells, freezing the voidlings raw from afar also helps buy some time.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I was able to finish this battle yesterday. My biggest problem was keeping Gwydian alive since he kept running around in the fire like a crazy person. I ended up kinda cheesing it by keeping him stunned, frozen, etc. Thanks again!

- 'Decaying Touch' Skill is very good for the 2nd wave.

A bit late but I came up with a very easy solution to doing this quest without a lot of hydromancy spells or spamming bless, but you will most likely need 2 teleport spells.

There is a ledge to the far north with a vine ladder. The blobs (even the small jumping ones) cannot get up there. Simply teleport Gwydian as close to the ledge as possible from the top of the platform, and then teleport him again to the far left side of the ledge.

From here, you can wedge him into that corner by placing one of your characters next to him so he can't go back down.

You can do this a second time to the right (facing north) of the dead tree further into the cave/tunnel so he isn't even in line of sight of the blobs. (Since some of them have ranged attacks) I suggest using a ranged character here.

Once your party is safely up on the ledge and out of line of sight of the blobs, simply teleport them up and cc them one at a time until they're all dead. EZPZ

My party happened to be drastically underleveled for this part (2 level disadvantage), unspecialized (little hydro, only 2 blesses) and also somewhat undergeared. Still managed to pull it off thanks to the magisters who distracted the blobs long enough for my party to escape to the ledge.

Honestly just having a good bow/crossbow user is more than enough. You have ridiculously easy highground during the whole fight and they have terrible physical resist. Just snipe them to death and heal/shield mostly with the rest of the party and it becomes super easy.

This fight is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ impossible on Lone Wolf. Every fight up to this point has been pretty straight forward. I have a Huntsman>Air Magic>Scoundrel as my ranger (mostly ranged skills except for 2 teleport/nether swap, and scoundrel for cloak n dagger and the crit modifier. My tank switches between sword/board and 2hander as a Warfare/Polymorph. Between the two of us, we can CC chain everything and win every fight. EXCEPT THIS ♥♥♥♥. I don't get it. There's just an endless supply of blobs that can leap cross-country. This ♥♥♥♥ is harder than any fight I've had up to this point on tactician and it's really pissing me off.

You must be playing it on easy then. I think most of us are playing tactician because Explorer is boring as ♥♥♥♥.

GWYDIAN CAN DIE AND IT DOEN'T MATTER !!!!! -> after the fight, teleport back to Hannag to announce her apprentice died. then you can still do a persuasion test in order to increase your max SP and receive the skillbook.

I redid this fight like 10 times almost, Gwydian keeps running to his death. Finally, I gave up and tried teleporting the guy out of there. Before the fight even starts, while my main was having conversation. I sent my companions to take out the other magisters near the platform area. Then, without ending the conversation, I had one of my companions teleport the guy to safety. A coward's way out I know, but it works like a charm.

Yeah, this fight was difficult for my party of 3 mages and an archer.. on explorer. Gwydian has the worst AI I've ever seen for an NPC and just absolutely loves running his ass through cursed fire pointlessly.

For my rogue/archer lone wolf team on classic.. it's just downright impossible. My characters can survive the fight easily, because you know.. I don't run around in the cursed fire like an idiot. But Gwydian? Ugh. He lasts about until the fire blobs come out, then just gets his ass handed to him. I don't have any hydro/aero peeps this time around, so trying to heal his dumb ass or teleporting him around isn't really an option without remaking my characters at the mirror and teaching them new skills and the like. Ugh.

Edit: As the guy above stated.. teleporting him works great. I literally walked up with my rogue, didn't even go onto the upper platform.. cast teleport on him, ported him as far away as possible (nearly to the gates thanks to height bonus) and never even entered dialogue with the magisters. When I walked over and talked to him he said his normal "That was awesome, what a show of source.." dialogue and ran off after the conversation was done. The magister actually just kept on going with her interrogation as if he was still there too. Which is rather hilarious considering the persuasion dialogue pointing out how bad she is at noticing him escaping as we talk.

Going to go back and murder the magisters for whatever they've got and the XP. It'll be interesting to see if the void blobs show up without source magic being cast.

Edit 2: Yeah, the fight started like normal. Gwydian cast his stupid chain lightning from halfway across the map, then ran back to rejoin the fight against the blobs. Luckily I was able to leave the magisters alive because Gwydian wasn't anywhere near them, and 3/4 of the mobs just went after them. Also.. Cryogenic Stasis works wonders here. Not only does it heal Gwydian, it prevents others from damaging him, and prevents him from moving (and hence damaging himself).

Weird, I found this fight super-easy. By this point, I had 2 people with teleport. I maintained a constant Circle of Protection, and otherwise just healed Gwydian and popped him into the Circle when he ran off. For the enemies, I'd summon up a Bone Widow and let it chase down anything idling outside of the tower area. The Magisters I teleported into groups of Voidlings, and otherwise just kind of idly slung spells from my high perch. When something jumped up, we'd gang up and quickly overwhelm it. I ran a Scoundrel/Warfare, a Hydro/Aero/Warfare, a Geo/Warfare Lizard, and a Summoner/Necromancer. It took one try on Tactician.

LFMF: This fight is not made easier by turning the fire into Holy Fire. For some reason, the evil void creatures manage to get all of the benefits of holy fire....
