Yes, that is exactly what you should do, if you cannot find the answer through your own search. It's effective, efficient, avoids confusion such as God Himself above answering the original 2017 question instead of yours, and it's conventionally accepted forum etiquette. You only serve to bury your own inquiry by acting in this way.
One other thing for starting a new thread is that the original posters and/or people who get replied to will start getting notifications from posts they made years ago. So starting a new thread is a courtesy to those people.
