How to get the Face ripper as Fane
made it to fort joy and talked to the black smith but for the life of me I can't find how to get into the dungeon to get the face ripper

Basically go into Fort Joy, go into the room with the dogs and into the giant chamber there is a man with the Face Ripper in his inventory.

how do I get into the fort, right now I'm stuck in the ghetto outside it

on the right edge of the fort (past the bridge, bottom side iirc) is a sewer backdoor; or you steal something and go directly to it's jail, or you take the hidden entrance (bottom left edge of fort) and use the backdoor to the jail or you go through the front door by force or you go to the cliff with the rainbow in the north and teleport down and go through that entrance or you take the secret entrance at the waypoint in town or.... so many choices :)

There are quite a few ways really. Do some stuff for one of the obvious people who want stuff done and one of them will clue you in to a way. Helps to have a char with wits too, look for secret doors and what not.

The face ripper isn't in the dungeon.

Spoiler

You get it from the sourcerer that destroyend your ship, i dont remember her name, you find her in the north beach from fort joy.. before you can reach her you must kill all magisters (or sneak through them, there at least 3-4 ways to get out)

There are four different ways to get into the fort, the most obvious is the locked gate in front of it. Two are revealed as part of quests and are done by going to the prison, or you could just get arrested and the last is a secret you can discover to get to the higher levels of the fort first

Windego could have it or just the mask. But I always got the face ripper in the dungeon with the meat golems.

You are wrong, the face ripper is in the dungeon and your original mask is being held by that old crone, don't really know why you would ever need to make a new one as fane.

you don't get the face ripper from her, you get the mask which you've lost and can craft again with the face ripper

That's why I came here. I do not understand why we would need the face ripper if the sourcer had the original mask in her body - it seems like you MUST kill her as none of the choices seemed to matter.

Does she only appear if you have Fane in your party? I have been ripping off faces, but it seems like a waste of time now. Thoughts?

without thane you wont get the mask. And Windego will be back. Not going to spoil it, but... yeah.,

you always get the mask, even without fane, but non-undead can also wear a mask to alter their racial stats and racial talents, so if everyone wants to be able to eat body parts for free skills everyone can make their own mask to turn into an elf

I've finished Fort Joy (leaved the island long ago) and have missed the mask and the ripper... can I still get it anywhere else?

There's another face ripper in driftwood... Upstairs in hotel section of tavern IIRC... Just look around in locked rooms...
