Spoilers

Basically in Original Sin 1 Source had become corrupted and evil, so Source Hunters were created to fight it. Two Source Hunters travel to a town called Cyceal to investiage a murder that seems to have involved Source, and while investigating they discover that an entity called the Void Dragon is devouring time itself and the only way to stop it is by collecting special gems called Star Stones.

Eventually, the Source Hunters discover that the culprit behind the murder was a member of the Immaculates, a cult that worships the Void Dragon and is led by a woman called the Conduit. The Immaculates seek to resurrect Bracchus Rex, the last and mightiest of the Source Kings, for their plans, but the Source Hunters foil this by slaying the now undead Bracchus.

The Source Hunters chase the Immaculates and the Conduit into a large forest, where they discover a woman named the White Witch, who explains that the Conduit is actually her sister, who became evil after the White Witch and Zandalor (who you may recognize from past games) betrayed her in some way, I'm not exactly sure about that part.

Anyway, its soon discovered that the Immaculates are creating super soldiers called Death Knights who can't be killed in conventional ways. So the Source Hunters hunt down a way to destroy them, do so, and finally corner the Conduit. Depending on your choices, they either simply kill the Conduit or find a way to redeem her.

Finally, its time to face the Void Dragon. As they close in on it, the Source Hunters discover that they are in fact the reincarnations of two legendary demigods who once guarded the source of...well, all Source, until a naive goddess accidentally caused Source to become corrupted while trying to do a good deed. The demigods, blaming themselves for this, stripped themselves of their memories and divine powers, becoming the amnesiac Source Hunters, while the goddess, equally blaming herself, sealed herself and the Void Dragon to duel each other forever.

With the goddess' help, the Source Hunters destroy the Void Dragon and save the world, but because they've become so supernaturally powerful, they can no longer return to Rivellon.

That's more or less the jist of it.

There was a bad thing that wanted to consume the universe. You play as two fallen gods (who think they're normal humans) trying to stop the bad thing. Antics ensue. You stop the bad thing. No, this doesn't work like Mass Effect if that's what you're asking. This game is millenia in the future of OS1. You don't even need to bother with the first (though it's an amazing game and you SHOULD bother with it). A couple of times characters from the previous are mentioned, but that's about it.

Yeah, this game doesn't even seem to be set in the same world as the first game. I know it is, but it's so different it may as well not be. The societies are entirely different.. the races are even different (the first only had humans). Sourcerers are apparently now incredibly common instead of quite rare. About the only thing that connects the two are the abilities (which are more or less identical) and a couple of characters like that statue of Braccus Rex right at the beginning. Haven't seen anything else that even suggests this game is set in the same world.

There are non-human races in DOS1; just not as playable characters. There are Orcs, Undead (skeletons), Goblins, Trolls, Imps etc. which are interactive NPCs with voiced dialogue. Even talking mushrooms for all you vegans out there.

I've put 500+ hours into this game, one of my all time favorite games, and I can't believe I never sought out the answer to this exact question before.

Kind of makes sense tho because ~1200 years have gone by between the DOS1 and DOS2.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
