There is a respec option, but I don't believe it is available till after you leave Fort Joy. There might be mods you can download, but they disable achievements. Have you visited the doctor taking care of the drunk guy just outside the cave entrance on the beach? She sells polymorph skills, there are some really dope ones (More become available as you level up).

You can learn every skill in the game, the class does not restrict you. Just put points into other schools.
As for respecs... idunno, to be honest. Haven't played it too far yet. But the first one had them, so I don't see a reason why this one wouldn't.

The 'classes' are really only pre-defined stats+skills, in addition to starting equipment.

If you really want to min-max, then restarting would be the best option - but if you're playing on Explorer mode, or don't mind waiting to level up and put points in things you're more interested in, then you can just continue and have your character grow in a different direction.

If you started as a Witch, or a Knight, or a Shadowblade (etc.), there's no reason you must continue down that path. :-)

The class you pick at the begining does restrict you. Say you pick fighter, but later when after leaving fort joy you decide to go with a rouge build then all the skills like backlash will scale with strength not finesse. So you might put all points from strength to finesse but all skills will scale with strength, either making your skills weak af due to points in finesse or your daggers making no damage due to points in strength.

Only thing is, that your equipment skins stay with the initial class... so to say: my Beast (aero/ hydro wizard) now runs in a full plate :D

after you leave fort joy you can respec your character an infinite amount of times. i would just stick with it until then.

the only kind of lost cost with respecing in having to buy the skill books for your new "class"

In the Lady Vengeance (Ship at the end of Act 1 - Fort Joy), there's a big mirror right in front of the prison cell on the lowest deck. Use it with the character you want to modify. You can change everything except Tags, Race and -not sure on that one, never really checked- Gender.

There's a respec at the end of Act 1 on the ship.

Ok, but for those of us who know about the respect - is there any way to change your base class preset? Specifically because it changes how your armor looks. And I wish I realised that when I was making the character and just made a battlemage with my elf, and respec him into a wizard :(
